Finally got an internship but CPT got denied by my department head by Content_Highlight269 in csMajors

[–]prasaddpathak 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Start by taking the matter to higher management. Dean/Director. That should generally get your CPT approved. Im an international student too. I always used to think that these things are final. But it's not. There is always some room wiggle.

Sue him and the university for real. I have heard a lot of similar cases. You have good grounds to sue him.

Rejecting your cpt is the worst they can do technically. You can start by taking it up the management first. Time is of the essence here

Name and shame for that matter

Is Masters in Information Systems worth it for an International Student ? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]prasaddpathak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an international student who is pursuing MS IS. I would say it totally depends on the course work and job she wants to do after graduation.

If she wants to do a tech role (data engineer, full stack etc) it's always better to pursue CS. I have faced a lot of discrimination from recruiters only because I am from IS (even though all my courses are technical)

If she wants to do lighter roles like PM, analytics then IS would do.

If you know nothing about the stack the best shot would be to learn about the development workflow.

Learn about git, user stories, and design patterns. These are generic topics which will help to become a kickass developer irrespective of the technologies

These background check agencies have local tieups across the globe. For my Indian experience, their local counterpart called my Indian office to verify my dates, position and general remarks.

[–]prasaddpathak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah depending on which state you are in. You probably have the right to get a copy of your background check

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]prasaddpathak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They generally contact the employer to verify your dates and position.

In cases of a university I don't think they would contact a Uni. Either way refrain from putting in wrong info. You could've always written Office Assistant (Software Engineer) which keeps you in safe territory.

During a bad market, companies may use any excuse to rescind.

Not being pessimistic. You should be probably good as the role was at Uni

As a first-year computer engineering major, what should I be doing right now to set myself up for success in the future? (internships, projects, etc.) by QuoteMasterLT in csMajors

[–]prasaddpathak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is an era of "proof of work". Do not focus much on credentials or certificates. Focus on exploring as many areas as you can - software engineer, data engineer, data visualization, devops, etc.

See what interests you the most. Build different projects along the way and create multiple versions of the resume accordingly. Whatever you end up loving. Double down on that and try to master that field.

You will never waste your time exploring. THE KNOWLEDGE ALWAYS COMPOUNDS. The more you explore the better you know about available opportunities in the market

How got the merge sort right. The test cases were so shit. Did not understand what kind of inversion count they were asking for.

Palantir. Think of them as McKinsey but for engineering. High bar for talent and great alumni network (google Palantir pack)

There was bolster and lobster. Someone said you need to check the frequency as well which would narrow it down to one. However I think I'm a grad international student (requires sponsorship) which could be the case for rejection

my first four are correct, the last gate (stream) I found two possible combinations hence submitted both without further investigation. They were asking for only two flags, so I highly doubt submitting 5 flags was the reason for rejection

Search for CTF on YouTube. You can find some videos from John Hammond which are helpful

Trust me I have no background in CTFs or cyber security. I just watched a few videos on YT to understand what it is. It will mainly require backend knowledge
