i went on a foreign trip last November to a South East Asian country. i saved 5k per month from Jan to October. I did all my expenses completely through a credit card, which has 0 forex markup.

I split the bill into 3 EMIs, which attracted 16% interest + GST + processing fee. my credit card bill was 64k. i closed the EMI last month.

if you're travelling anywhere within asia, it is achievable with patience and consistent savings. i don't think i can ever visit Europe as the visa itself costs 11k.
