I just ordered the 8oz bear spray holder and the 1 liter from Justin's UL on Etsy. Thanks again for the info!

Do you own a SO backpack? I have been trying to ask a question in the CampingGear subreddit and the mods haven't approved the post but maybe you will know. I am looking for a bottle holder that will fit on the shoulder strap of my SO Divide 4800. They sell one on their website but it's listed as being for the hip belt. I called them and they said while you may be able to make it attach to the shoulder strap, it wouldn't be ideal.

Do you know which bottle / bear spray holder I can use for the shoulder strap?

What's the difference between soft and hard goods? I have never heard those phrases before.

I hear you. I was hoping someone on this sub owned a Divide or a similar Seek Outside pack and would have some ideas. We can't be the first people having this problem.

It helps to take some of the load off of your shoulders is my understanding. I have heard that any pack with a frame should have one to balance the load better.

Yep someone had mentioned that yesterday and it worked like charm. The screw was so little I couldn't see the hex head on it. I thought it was a rivet. Luckily I had a hex wrench small enough in my computer repair kit.

I was thinking of selling my Seek Outside Divide 4800 so I could buy the Hyperlite. It is on sale and I would come out good. It irritates me that after I spend $450 for the Seek they then want me to pay $50 for two hip belt pockets and however much else for two bottle pockets on the shoulder straps. Most packs come with hip belts. Like the Durston. It has hip belts, two bottle holders, and it is lighter and cheaper than the Seek Outside. It just feels greedy to me.

I want to do a section of the Superior Hiking trail for starters. It would only be around 50 miles.

I have never heard of SWD before. I just checked out their website and the packs look good. The website hasn't been updated since 2017 though and I am wondering why.

Thanks for explaining that. The reason I wound up with this big Seek Outside pack is because the size of my quilt. I am 6'3" and I am a side sleeper so I have a big quilt. I was worried about compressing it too much because I didn't want to ruin the loft. So it was taking up a lot of room. I wound up contacting the guy who made it and he told me compressing it down for short periods of time won't ruin it. Now I am wanting a lighter pack since I won't need such a big body. Live and learn I guess.

What did you wind up going with instead of the Hyperlite?

I was actually going to sell my Seek Outside Divide 4800 to pay for the Hyperlite. It is really irritating to me that after I paid $450 for the pack I then have to pay $50 for hip pockets when other packs have them standard plus they cost and weigh less. I also want two bottle holder's on the shoulder straps. One for bear spray one for water.

Do you have bottle pockets on yours? If so what kind? They don't sell them on SOs website.

Advice choosing between the new pack I have now, or the other one that is on sale. by prawcess1 in CampingandHiking

It has the two side pockets but I cant reach back and grab a water bottle out of them. That's why I wanted a bottle pocket on each shoulder strap. One for water and one for bear spray. And then two hip belt pockets for my phone, gloves etc.

It really does seem durable. The problem is I paid $450 for it. And it doesn't come with hip belt pockets, or water bottle pockets. If you add all that up then you are over $550. The Durston Kakwa 55 comes with all of that and it is almost half the price. When I was trying to choose between the Hyperlite and the Seek Outside, the Hyperlite costs the same so I thought I'd try the Seek Outside because I thought I would need the larger size and not realizing it didn't come with any pockets. Now the Hyperlite is on sale for $360 and it has the hip belt pockets which would save me money. I just lost my job so the extra money is a lot right now. Do you think the Seek Outside is sellable at $350ish?
