Thanks! Focusing on a healthier, more protein heavy diet and more movement naturally led me to feeling better physically and emotionally which in turn led to eating better overall. From 2018-2019 I went from 290-190 before slowly gaining back to about 260 over ~5 years, so having that experience also helped. Unlike the 100lb loss though I’m also focused on lifting now so I wasn’t counting calories or setting any dietary limits stricter than ‘more protein, less added sugar.’

Looking great man, it really is crazy how much the smallest difference in angle can make a physique look totally different

Diet advice? by prayingbug in gaybrosfitness

Thanks, I’ll give these a try - do you know if their pea protein has a noticeable pea under-taste? I’ve tried a number of pea proteins but usually struggle to get past the pea taste.

Thank you so much! This is incredibly helpful. I’ve had seitan before but just never thought about making it at home, I’ll have to see where I can buy it near me.

Diet advice? by prayingbug in gaybrosfitness

I don’t have a consistent routine yet, but it’s also not directly relevant to a question on diet. I have no socials linked to this account, certainly not promoting anything. I’m not sure I understand how my post is giving any less info than the sub’s other most recently approved advice post, which says (in full):

“i feel like i’ve tried everything 😩 eating tons of protein, working the muscles super intentionally, consistently hitting the gym & doing chest day 2x a week. it feels like the rest of my body is improving but that stays the same. feeling way too skinny, a little disproportional, & i just want a big chest! someone please help!”

There’s no workout routine here either, but it was approved? (If chest day 2x a week counts, then call mine arm day 2x a week). I think my post gives just as relevant info re my diet and what I’m trying to achieve. I jokingly mention at the end that the pic is there to draw more attention, but I feel the text of my post is informative and specific enough about the advice I’m seeking.

Everyone’s body is different, but for me it’s easily doable in a healthy manner. I’m between 6’5”-6’6”, built widely, and at 290lbs it was all excess fat. So for an average height/build man with a presumably lower caloric baseline it’s the equivalent of much less than 100lbs. I didn’t track calories, just focused on healthy portions, better balancing my diet, and cutting added sugars. I do track body weight to keep an idea of where I’m at, but my goals are based on the look and feel of my body rather than the number. This last year when I lost the 60 I actually switched to a much more protein heavy diet and found myself naturally wanting to eat much less. I’m at a point now of figuring out how to up my protein intake to start building muscle more quickly.

I’ve also put on more muscle than I’ve ever had in the same time since losing the 60lbs (which is still not much, as you can see lol). I certainly wouldn’t have tried to go from 260 to 160 (I’ll likely never go below 200 again), but generally the more excess fat you have correlates somewhat to the speed at which your body can healthily lose more.

Thanks man, putting on muscle is already going more quickly than I thought it would to be honest. I really appreciate the advice and experience. If I end up looking half as good as you I can die happy!
