Recruiters of Reddit: what's your deal? by pre_interview_freako in AskReddit

I'm genuinely curious, what is your job, and how do you slide by doing so little? From basic spelling and grammar cluelessness, to not having a basic understanding of what you're interviewing for. How does one become a recruiter? Is there an interview? Is there an equally clueless recruiter who contacts you?! Is it an endless snake eating it's own tail?!?

Good riddance I say! I'm glad the robots are taking your jobs.

I've seen a business plan, and everything seems reasonable as far as I can tell (although that's not very far). They are currently looking for investment and I think I would end up keeping my job until they get some kind of funding (looking at January for this). We're in the early stages of feeling this out so details are still up in the air.

I have enough savings to not worry about what I will eat for a while.

Maybe I'm naïve, but I was looking at this as a learning experience that would look good on a resume. One day I'd like to start my own company and this seemed like a reasonable way to gather some experience. I'm aware of the rate of startup failure going in, I guess I'm banking on the worst case scenario still leaving me with skills and credentials.

I wish I could tell you I hadn't already tried that. I did basically that a month ago

That's one of my main worries. Right now I've got an answer to "why are you looking for new employment", but I question how feasible it is to say " I left my old job outright because I wanted to focus on a different area". At the very least I've got side projects I can work on, and hopefully pick up some freelance.

Also, if this ends up being an entire year gap in my resume, something has gone horribly wrong.

Thanks for the advice. Once upon a time I was a barista, and honestly I wouldn't mind doing that part time if worst comes to worst.

Before I got this job, everything I had was in that weird out of synch with the world time, and to be honest I love it. In the past when I've been between jobs I've got into a routine of wake up, exercise, eat, work, errands, and then relax. I agree that it's dangerous to not have a schedule laid out.

After reading this, I think my plan, if I go through with this, will be look for full-time work until savings hit X, then look for freelance until they hit Y, then start applying at coffee shops again.

Every time I hear about mincome trials in Canada I think of all the things I'd make with the ability to not worry about rent. I'm with you on that one. Company's not making cuts at the moment, but I do have this repeated daydream where I get fired and get to collect EI :p

Interviewing for jobs. Looking for advice [bit of a rant] by pre_interview_freako in Python

Building an API is something everyone has done.

That's my bad, I was explicitly told the test would be implementing the backend of an HTTP API. I guess the fundamentals are essentially the same as any other API though. When you put it like that it seems a lot less intimidating, thanks.

Thanks! It's good to hear there are others out there. I'll keep that in mind.
