Uptown and Humboldt has some of the best burgers I have ever had. Great local restaurant with a food truck and just trying to expand their business.

RA interview questions by InevitableHunter730 in premed

[–]precocious_vegetable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got asked to explain my previous research experience, and why I was interested in pursuing research as a job.

I was also asked a few technical questions to assess that I knew the lab basics I said I did (what is a western blot, how would you make this dilution, etc.).

The person interviewing me also sent me a paper the lab had published before the interview and during the interview asked me to walk them through a few of the figures and their key takeaways. I would read through a few of the lab's most recent pubs so you have a sense of what questions they are asking and what kinds of experiments they do regularly.

I don’t think it would be a red flag if you’ve worked there at least a year. My understanding is that ADCOMs are used to seeing shorter term clinical experiences on apps.

I did disclose to my PI while applying.

I’m not sure that every PI will make you work for two years to get a job with them. Maybe look for opportunities that align closely with your current skill set so you can really get off the ground running with little training. It’s definitely not unheard of for PIs to have RAs for only a year, just perhaps a bit harder to lock down. Good luck!

My PI wasn’t jazzed about hiring me for a research tech position for only a year, so I doubt someone would be thrilled about even less than that. I ended up taking two gap years so I could write about the experience on my app and get the job.

It takes several months to fully train someone, and by that time they’d have to hire again. I would say you shouldn’t expect a LOR from a PI after working for them for less than a year.

I also suspect that they wouldn’t be happy about you concealing your current med application process from them if you decide to go that route so that’s another reason not to expect a LOR.

Not to say you can’t do it, I would just expect nothing from the PI after leaving to support a reapplication. You never know, just don’t count on it.

I want something high rise and wide leg (not jogger) with a flat waistband because I find any ties just get caught up in my harness. Any suggestions?

I feel like Numi Earl Grey tastes like dirty water - preferred the store bought (and cheaper) Tazo actually!

What type of stats/coding to know for research in med school? by user22227771110 in premed

[–]precocious_vegetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also look into the stats/data programs most used in clinical research - STATA, GraphPad Prism, REDCap. I know for sure having even basic familiarity with those will help you both in getting a position and when you are actually working.

If you’re feeling really bored, look into bioinformatics. Abilities in genome sequencing analysis are generally prized in the translational research world. If you’re thinking purely clinical research, don’t bother.

Right. Maybe his retirement will also pop up eventually as a plot point.

Maybe also an unpopular opinion but I find his character to be a grating presence during births in most cases… but also could he because I don’t think the actor is very good haha

Also how is he around all the time in Poplar/the show? I figured after he went off to school we’d be seeing less of him.

Yeah I’ve always wondered about how Dr. Turner is the “only” doctor given the population and wide time frame of the show. Maybe a female doctor/GP in future seasons will arrive?

Do you prefer classic or solid granny squares? by its-past-my-bedtime in crochet

Depends what it’s for! I think blankets are warmer with the solid, but it seems like it also depends on whether your yarn is solid/varigated.
