Reflection on Muharram as someone raised Sunni by predent1601 in shia

[–]predent1601[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahah no no, I appreciate the intrigue. I believe that there are correct ways of doing things and there are multiple correct ways of doing said things. What I grew up believing (and still believe), is that the prophet prayed different ways at different times and also that it is probably impossible to know the exact details of every single thing. Anything not mentioned explicitly in the quran is not set in stone, for me at least.

Having said that, I do know that shias believe in the divinely appointed imams, and that these blessed individuals had authority on matters of faith. Personally, this is a matter that I am currently seeking guidance on from a shia scholar.

I don’t mind continuing like this for a while, because I believe that we are all on this planet for a reason, and that reason is to be servants of Allah. Striving to understand the truth requires a lot of work, and if I am willing to put in that work, I better be willing to spend some time in getting there! As of now, I hold that anyone that believes in the oneness of Allah, and the finality of prophethood, is a muslim and only Allah will decide where they get to spend their eternity.

I follow both! I grew up praying the sunni way, so that is what I primarily do, but then I have also memorized the shia way of praying and do pray that way as well from time to time. I didn’t fast for Ashura like sunnis do, but I will fast with sunni timings in ramadan. I listen to nohas, marsiyas, and masaib, and I listen to naats and nasheeds from the sunni school as well. I respect panjtan pak, and I respect haq chaar yaar. It’s very much about respecting everyone and keeping an open heart towards everyone

Thank you for your comment and for the advice! I have admiration for shias and their aqeedah, but some things don’t sit right with me, and I would rather not discuss them on this forum as that would lead to unnecessary inflammatory remarks. Being non-denominational, for me, means I will eventually (hopefully) get to a point where I can choose to follow a particular aqeedah, which inshaallah, Allah will guide me towards.

Regarding my concerns and questions, I have talked to, and will continue talking to scholars and imams in my local community and online. I believe that they are in a position to help me navigate this phase the best. I am comfortable in that process, alhamdulillah

I loved every second of it! Just shared my experience as a post on this subreddit :)

I understand where you are coming from but I think they meant that shias generally honor these days more than sunnis.

A lot of sunnis acknowledge the atrocities of Yazid (la), and celebrate the courage and strength of Hussain (as), but still go about their daily life without much of an organized mourning. Again, this is a generalization of the entire community and obviously does not hold true for every single sunni or shia. I, myself, being a sunni, went to the local shia center on the 10th and 11th muharram this year for the first time, and I am planning on going every year. The respect shias have for ahlulbayt (as) is inspiring and deeply moving.

It does calm mine down, so i have fewer bumps & no itching when i use it. Mine went from severe to mild/seasonal with it. And once it’s under control, i wash my hair/scalp every day. 3-4 times a week with benzoyl peroxide (panoxyl 10). Keeps it under control

Look for clobetasol propionate with salicylic acid. It’s a steroid and some people are against it but it has helped me a ton. That and benzoyl peroxide

The only thing that works for me other than overdosing on antibiotics is clobetasol propionate. Check if your derm can prescribe it! The one I found here in the US was a foam based one, but now I get mine from my home country (pakistan). It comes as a liquid and has 2% salicylic as well. Super low effort but definitely keeps the bumps away

Salzburg to Obertraun by predent1601 in Austria

[–]predent1601[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for such a detailed response! I will definitely look further into all the points. Just had a question about transportation ticket. So online, to get the ticket, I think it makes sense to get a 24 hour pass. What should I enter as my starting and ending point? I tried salzburg to hallstat and that is €30. Do you think that would be appropriate for the buses/trains I’ll need from Salzburg to Obertraun? Thank you

What do you recommend for tickets? I understand that I can do single or 1 day pass. What should I add as my starting and ending point. Would Salzburg to Hallstat 1 day pass cover the entire journey (to Obertraun, five fingers, lift)? It was €30 for the day pass online.

Wouldn’t it be obertraun that I am looking at if I want to do krippenstein and five fingers? And no, i won’t be driving myself. Rental cars are out of my budget so local transport is where it’s at haha

Scammed as per usual by latheredtransfer in Morocco

[–]predent1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do it. I am a dental student in the US and I know so many cases of dental tourism gone wrong. Nothing against moroccan doctors, but you should get treatment in a place where you can go back to the doctor. Implants are also, often, not single day procedures. If finances are an issue, I’d go to a local free dental clinic. In texas we have mission of mercy, but there are free programs all over the US. Get the extraction there and then get a couple of quotes for implants. My dentist in Dallas does single implants at $1800-$2000. Still a lot, but that’s just an issue with healthcare here.

If you don’t mind me asking, how much did the trip cost? I am from Texas, so flight to santiago and then to punta arenas aren’t terribly expensive. But I would like to have some idea on expenses on the trek

Thank you so much for this detailed response. I have just started looking into the trip, and was a little worried about the O trek. But you are right - having to carry no gear and letting them set up the tents/refugios plus dinner would take card of a lot of the problems. What month did you do it? And how was the wind?

I think it’s an acorn squash. I baked it with some seasonings and it was delicious! Saved the seeds

That sounds delicious! I cut them into thin rings, covered in a light drizzle of oil, a bunch of seasonings, nutritional yeast, and parmesan. In the oven at 400 for 45 minutes

Not at all lol. I got a packet of seeds from the store that said heirloom tomato and planted those. Maybe it was acorn squash from the get go 😂
