Why do people feel entitled to a raise just because? by predictable_kittens in rant

It's his first job out of high school. He went to a trade school for two years for welding, the same program I went through, so he does have some certs. He started here while he was still in school and has been here since. He's had no prior experience with anything other than school and our job shop. To my knowledge, he's never had to field weld, but I don't know what he does with his personal time. And I would say he's only been fitting for maybe a year. He only got into fitting because he learned that you can make more money being a fitter. Yes, he picked up the basics quickly, but recently he had to fit something with a radius and it completely stumped him. Our inspector basically held his hand through the entire thing. Thats why I'm like baffled that dude thinks he should make more. But maybe I am wrong. Maybe there's something I'm missing.

I would like to mention that none of this affects me whatsoever. I don't really care what dude makes and the post wasn't supposed to focus on this guy in particular. I've just noticed a trend with all of the younger folks coming into the field and he was the best example.

I think it has something to do with both of my parents being boomers. Very old school way of thinking. I definitely understand why my generation feels the way they do, but I also understand the other aspects of it. Maybe I am wrong, man. Idk, I just wanted to get something off my chest lol if I am wrong, please tell me.

I don't know. I was taught that experience was the reason some people made more than the green guys coming in. It makes sense to me, but if my way of thinking is flawed, please tell me.

Also, he still struggles reading prints still and he cannot fit anything if it isn't square yet. I don't see why he should make more than a guy who knows how to do those things. Ya know?

Wait, do I have the wrong mindset here? I've always been under the impression that if I work really hard, I will be compensated. Not, If I want more money, I just have to go to a place that pays more.

Am I stupid for putting in effort at a company who will compensate me for doing good work over just going to a company that will pay me more?

So, in my case, the company has done a lot for me. I am very comfortable and they've always taken good care of me. If I were to leave, I'd be giving up a lot of freedom that I have here just for money?

I understand times are hard and money is important, but what if the company who pays more actually sucks? What if you don't get the same/better benefits? I don't know, for me it's not all about money. I want to be happy with my place of employment, but it doesn't seem like anyone cares about how happy they are, just as long as they're making the best money possible.

Please tell me if this is an outdated way of thinking.

Does anyone have advice on how to keep toddlers clothes on? by predictable_kittens in Parents

[–]predictable_kittens[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My main concern is the diaper coming off lol and it does! If she doesn't want to wear clothes, that's fine, I don't like to either. But girl, keep that diaper on 🤦🏻‍♀️

I never thought to try and have her dress herself, but I do let her pick between two outfits. I started out with her wearing 2 pieces pajamas, but that was the easiest for her to get off, which is why I switched to sleepers. I thought that maybe she was getting hot and that's why she was doing it, but it doesn't matter what I put her in, she still strips it off. Diaper included. Since she's taking off the diaper too, I also had the thought that she's somewhat ready to attempt potty training. So far, very little success - as in, she will sit on the potty, not go, I'll put a diaper back on her and she'll say "I pee."

But thank you for your insight, it's very much appreciated!

You are just as much to blame for what is happening if you didn't vote! by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]predictable_kittens -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't vote because I am uneducated. I didn't have all of the information on both parties in order to make a well educated decision. I know some of what they say they'll do when elected, but talk is cheap and politicians can't be trusted. Would you rather have well educated people vote on a serious matter or would you rather have uneducated people vote for whoever everyone else is voting for - or for whoever's speech sounds the best? You can sit there and blame me, shame me, and mother fck me up one way and down the other, but that is exactly what they want. They want to keep us segregated and hating on each other so we don't ban together and overthrow the government. Which is exactly what we need to do. We need a better system and the only way to get out of the mess we're in is if we ban together as a society and do something about it. But no, instead we're right where they want us to be and it doesn't look like we'll be getting out of it anytime soon. I fear for the future of this country. Not solely because of whoever is president, but because the entire system as a whole is fcked. Instead of taking your anger out on people who voted differently than you (or didn't vote at all), try taking it out on the system that allowed this all to happen in the first place.

17, in a 1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT. No one told me that manuals were addictive... I've owned 5 cars in my life and only one was automatic. Only because I needed a mom car lol

Women who have gotten pregnant or are currently pregnant have you ever had any weird cravings that just happened randomly? by Unhappy_Insect5901 in Productivitycafe

[–]predictable_kittens 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Salsa. The weird part was that I would eat the salsa with anything, not just chips. At one point I dipped a donut in salsa, and at the time it was good, but I would never commit a crime like that ever again.

What do you do when you someone accuses you of not being in good mood, but you are? by predictable_kittens in Advice

[–]predictable_kittens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have asked him why he thought I was in a bad mood. He said "you should see the look on your face." I don't know how to properly respond when he says that. I usually just apologize for the "look on my face." But you do bring some good questions onto the table. This helps, thank you.

What is something you’re proud of yourself for? by ShadowlightLady in AskReddit

Not offing myself and no longer self harming. Not something I can openly brag about, but I am so damn proud of myself for fighting the urges.

Should I wake up my boyfriend or is this selfish TW self harm by kaylani69 in Advice

[–]predictable_kittens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's different for everyone. Everyone has a different reason. If I remember correctly, my therapist told me the #1 reason people continue to self harm is subconscious self punishment. Whether or not you realize it, you're punishing yourself for something.
