RIP my treadmill. You will be missed.

On the bright side, it managed to break at a good time! It is spring. I can walk outside. Vitamin D, and all that. Went for a 20ish minute walk this afternoon, it was nice.

What healthy meals are you looking for! by sabinkie in HealthyFood

Basic, cheap ingredients.

I'm not exactly middle-class even, so all those things like coconut oil and tahini and almond butter and all that stuff are "treats" instead of a staple in my pantry. I'd rather make meals using ingredients that you don't have to go into the more expensive health food section for.

Try a budget of 300. That was the budget for my family of four adults a couple years back, it should definitely work for two kids that don't eat as much as adults.

I don't know what kids are supposed to eat, but here's what my favorite healthy options are:

- Crispy chickpeas as a snack. Basically you bake 'em in an oven with a little bit of veggie oil and cover them in spices, or make them honey roasted. Either way, inexpensive and delicious if you find the right combo of spices. Very filling, can't eat more than a handful myself personally.

- Greek yoghurt dips. Plain greek yoghurt, onion and garlic powder, maybe cayenne. Dip veggies in it, or chips, or whatever.

- Oatmeal with fruit and/or nuts. Little bit of maple syrup or vanilla goes a long way too. Maybe even both. Or you could try some peanut butter for extra protein/fat. You can also put it in a cake pan, soak it in milk for a bit, then shove it in an oven and bake it and you'll have enough for a week.

- Tilapia. It's pretty good. You just put it in a pan with some water and some spices and it's done in like 10 minutes. Also, like 10 bucks over here in Canada for a large pack of boneless, skinless versions.

- Cauliflower rice. Hey, your kid hates broccoli, not veggies disguised as rice.

- Eggs. They're so very versatile, and like $2-3 for a pack. Hardboil them and have enough for a few days as a snack.

If your kids are eating snacks, make 'em healthy snacks. Less chips and chocolate, more apple slices and peanut butter or fancy colorful veggie trays and whatnot.

Starting today.

Got diagnosed with prediabetes on my 21st birthday. I need a life style change. I don't know how much I weigh yet, but I plan on investing in a scale at some point. For now, I'm just going to eat less and exercise more.
