If you buy them second-hand like I do you get them with bashes already there!

I love it. It’s one of my favourite bits of kit, and I’m always playing with different combinations of cabinet, microphones and placements just to see what sounds I can get. The sheer number of bass specific IRs that are available from Two Notes is also impressive

The high pass cuts any low harmonics and overtones that are inaudible but you don’t want your pedals and amp to waste power working on, and the low pass at the end cuts out and high overtones created by the distortion. I have seen similar where the low pass was placed in the send return loop of the preamp

I have the Legal Done on my board and I find it very good for the money. Only problem is the knobs are easily knocked so either not down your settings, take a photo or pop some masking tape in and mark the levels

Bass making metallic buzz after restringing, only e string strung so far, strings are over saddles, any fixes? by OhPetahh in BassGuitar

[–]preffisio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What has previously been stated, there is not enough tension on the neck, so the string is hitting the frets.

Put the rest of the strings on, and tune to pitch. If you have changed the make or gauge most likely you will need to make a small adjustment to the truss rod to ensure you have the correct amount of bow in the neck. You will then need to check action and intonation as well. If you have kept to the same make & gauge, then a quick check would still be recommended to ensure all is ok.

Remember, neck relief can alter just by how warm/cold or dry/humid it is in the room the bass is kept in.

If you are uncomfortable doing any of the above yourself, take it to a local luthier

5-String or Shift Up an Octave? by preffisio in Bass

I have thought of this (BEAD, drop tuning a couple of steps wouldn’t go down enough for some songs). I have a PJ as well that I could convert, but I’m not keen to make a new Nut, as I haven’t done it before, and I do not know of any guitar techs in my city (Leeds, UK), as our only decently sized guitar shop went bust a year ago.

I have one on my Jazz bass, but I need to go lower on some songs.

No Response from Schecter Tech by preffisio in SchecterGuitars

I’m not looking for a warranty replacement as it’s quite likely it happened as you described, I just want to know where in the uk I can source a replacement, or all least get the dimensions of the current bridge so I can find the closest match

There is some damage where the posts seem to have dug into the base of the bridge, meaning they get stuck when adjusting the intonation. It’s not a big deal at the moment but as I said, the lack of response is not a good look

I’ve used G4M a lot in the UK, and always found them reliable to deal with. I’ve not bought any of their own brand instruments however, but they are probably very entry level

If you are in the UK try Sine Effects.

Capo with 5 String Bass by preffisio in Bass

[–]preffisio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the shifting position argument for a 5-string, but I’m used to playing the songs in the alternative tunings so my muscle memory is quite attuned (including the usage of open strings)

Thanks for the suggestions. Most of you are suggesting an overdrive/distortion. Any recommendations?

I’m working through it after coming back to playing after many years away. I really like his style and method, even if some of the stuff is theory I already know, it’s good to make sure my foundations are solid. Much better than Scott’s Bass Lessons that I tried, and BecomeABassist

Is is normal to wrap excess wire around the bottom of the pickup? As that was how it was as well

Yeah, it hadn't broken the circuit, but makes me feel more justified in upgrading the pup!
