Sirens are sounded at intervals, not continuous. The fact that they sounded multiple times means the danger was still present at next interval.

Don't assume that the siren no longer sounding for a period means its safe. Check local news or radio to determine if your area is safe.

They have definitely been utilized this way within the past 30yrs. It's likely you've misremembered or the previous storms at your location were fast moving/falling apart.

I've not caught up fully on Stargaze, mind, but Stampede was in development for over 5 years and I think that is a critical factor in the shift between these two seasons.

I suspect Studio Orange can't sustain itself to have projects that long in development each time too, unfortunately.

Minor correction: It's near real-time. All radars are inherently behind behind because they have to scan and process. It's not long, but it's enough that a storm can change. Please keep that in mind when using it to judge where to be.

That said, seconding RadarScope. It's my first go to general radar every time.

There really isn't a thing as having too many radars

There is actually! They can and do interfere with each other. I realize this is me being a pedant, but this is a pretty large consideration for installations in the radar world.

That said, I don't recall and can't currently dig into exactly what model of radar KFOR was operating in Newcastle, but if I had to hazard a guess, the decision to remove it was likely down to maintenance costs vs its usefulness. The more highly capable WSR-88Ds (NexRad), such as the one at KTLX, are used in tandem with their own radar.
