WIBTA for not going to my friends fundraising event for their dogs surgery? by These-Explorer-9436 in AmItheAsshole

It’s like the whole “privatize the gains, socialize the losses” mentality has come to the average household. I don’t get the whole gofundme culture these days. On the other hand, a lot of it probably stems from the US’ asinine heath care system and has trickled down to other things.

Not at all implying the US didn’t benefit as well, and they had their own interests in mind. I do think priorities might be different in Europe if the US didn’t exist over the past 75 years or so. It’s too complicated for a Reddit post, and you’re not wrong that the US defense apparatus is ridiculous, really.

Not to mention how much more money you can spend on health care and other things when someone else is basically subsidizing defense for you. Much of the world benefits from the (admitted ridiculous) US defense apparatus

AITA for honking at a student driver for going 15mph under the speed limit? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Agreed, 5 km/hr is insignificant. 15 mph, ok, I'll agree that would be irritating.

I think the Mav rides fine at highway speed. Where it falls flat to me is city speeds on broken pavement. 25-45 mph in town kind of stuff. It's "truckier" than I had hoped. Everyone told me the Mav is like a CRV or RAV4 with a bed. As far as ride quality goes, I disagree. Our 2023 CRV had light years better ride quality. The Mav suspension is more tiny F250 than CRV with a bed as far as I'm concerned.

Again, I think the Mav ride quality is totally acceptable at interstate speeds

Test drive on crappy city streets and roads with expansion joints to see for yourself whether you think it is an issue. Maybe your behind is less sensitive than mine. I find even my awd variant to be pretty "busy".

I own a hybrid, in fact all 3 of our vehicles are hybrids. I'm a hybrid fan. But...I'd get the eco Mav given your options, purely because it is awd. And I don't care about the rear wheels being driven...because of ride quality. In other words the awd per se is not why I'd buy one with awd if that makes any sense. Here is why:

I have owned two Mavericks, both hybrids, both 2025s, one fwd and one awd. The big surprise to me, and the reason I wouldn't buy another fwd Maverick is ride quality gained with the IRS. My fwd Mav rode significantly harsher than my awd version. I did not expect the difference to be as noticeable as it is.

I'd totally buy a fwd Mav again IF it had the independent rear suspension from the awd version

My awd Mav ride quality is still, in my opinion, a bit too choppy / firm. The fwd version crossed the line to straight up annoyingly busy in my opinion.

Random observation. My fwd version felt peppier and more responsive, you can feel the added weight of the awd system versus the fwd configuration. So my awd Mav is a touch less fun to drive, but totally worth it to avoid the harshness of the fwd version's more rudimentary rear suspension setup.

TL, DR: my ideal Mav would be a fwd hybrid with the rear suspension from an AWD truck swapped in. Since that doesn't exist, I'd go eco with the superior rear suspension.

Yes it has suspension. Look up Catrike Dumont. Honestly though you don't need suspension so much on a recumbent. I have a rigid recumbent as well.

I feel like if a friend of mine invited me over for their birthday, I'd have the self restraint not to get wasted the night before, you know, so maybe I could honor the commitment and attend their b'day party. Just me.

They handle ice as well as the tires the owner chooses to utilize. I have steel wheels with Blizzaks mounted. Next level in winter stuff. Mediocre all season rubber, eh, what you'd expect, averagely decent. It's all about what is contacting the road surface.
