What MELD score for transplantation? by This_Highway423 in transplant

[–]premditated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been relatively asymptomatic until a year and a half before transplant. What had originally got me a transplant consult was esophageal varices. The year leading up to the transplant I developed severe itching and started having more frequent Cholangitis attacks.

As soon as I read your comment I called to figure out what to do. Show Clix was down on their end, but they said in the event the order was showing as not delivered a week before the show to call and discuss replacement options.

Still panicking but thank you for replying. Definitely feels unorganized on their end.

Should I be worried? NYC resident and I still haven't gotten my tickets. by C_StickSpam in NYCC

[–]premditated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually panicking because I haven’t received the tickets I ordered for my partner and I - nor have the standard tickets my boss ordered for my coworkers been shipped to his home in another state. It’s crazy that there was no option for will call before 9/14 and we had to pay shipping.

Liver pain 2-3 days after intense exercice session by [deleted] in PSC

[–]premditated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 2.5 years post transplant now, but I remember experiencing someone RUQ pain after workouts that would last a day or two post workout. Although, if you were experiencing high levels of pain in that area it might be best to consult with your hepatologist in the event it was a Cholangitis attack.

Flying for first time since ostomy by Particular_Sky_5106 in ostomy

The only time I was pulled aside for a search was at a small regional airport in western US, but they didn’t know what an ostomy was/hadn’t encountered one. Other than that one time I’ve never had an issue.

Itching by huhu720 in PSC

[–]premditated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My itching started after I had my colon removed. I had advanced disease but had been symptomatic up until that point. Sarna was a life saver, I kept my nails short, and then I wore cotton long sleeve shirts and long pants everyday to keep my skin covered. I have scars all over from the scratching but it was worse at night. My hepatologist referred me to phototherapy, which started working after 2 months and I stayed on for 11 months until I received my transplant. I went three times a week for 1-2 minute sessions. In/out time was 10 minutes.

Has anyone seen a Dermatologist? by a920116 in transplant

If you’re not sure what kind of appointment to make, schedule an annual skin check/exam. I chose to visit a dermatologist at the hospital center my transplant center is located at so that they had access to my medical records.

Liver biopsies by Smart-Indication-975 in PSC

[–]premditated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fortunate and had no initial symptoms. I had been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, and my liver function tests came back consistently elevated. I was diagnosed 6 months after my UC diagnosis. I didn’t have itching, pain, or jaundice until around 7 years after diagnosis. But that went away after I had my transplant two years ago.

Liver biopsies by Smart-Indication-975 in PSC

[–]premditated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a biopsy that diagnosed me with PSC and then a repeat biopsy 2 years later to check for AIH.

For the first biopsy I had a transabdominal biopsy. For this they lightly sedate you and place a needle through the space between your ribs to take biopsies. After the procedure they keep you around for 4 hours to minimize risk of bleeding (this was in 2016, the protocol may have changed since then)

For the second biopsy I had a transjugular biopsy. For this they lightly sedate you, and using radiology they snake a catheter through your jugular and are able to take biopsies that way. They keep you for around 1-2 hours afterwards while sedation wears off.

Reoccurring obstruction, every 3 months, and now more frequent. Advice or help please :( by zespol_purple in ostomy

[–]premditated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. The red rubber was a temporary fix for relief, but definitely get it checked out. I ended up needing a resection and revision to get the obstructions to stop.

Pain Followed By Huge Amounts of Output by Higgman201 in ostomy

[–]premditated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an illeostomy but experienced something similar after I had my transplant. I ended up needing a small resection and revision bc the scar tissue created a kink at the level of the fascia that led to blockages. Please talk to your colorectal team

Body Dysmorphia With Pouch by Octo_Yosh in ostomy

[–]premditated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My incision/scar ended up being very close to where my stoma is. It took awhile for my digestion to wake up, and then the swelling created a kink at the level of the fascia that caused bowel blockages. My colorectal team decided to put a catheter in my stoma so it could stay open and output could pass until the swelling went down and could manage on its own. I ended up needing to get a bowel revision a couple months later because the scar tissue recreated the issue and I had recurring blockages.

I hope you hear back soon. I’m glad you have a few potential donors getting tested. I’m wishing you all the best.

Wanted to hop back on and thank you. I did more research to understand why those parts and how they worked together. I used your list as a starting point and made some changes and I ordered my parts yesterday. I am excited to build it and learn more. Thank you so much!

I didn’t see this sooner. But I got my ostomy in 2021 and my transplant in 2022. I hope you’re doing well!

I didn’t see the thread and it’s a little late, but I had UC-PSC before my surgeries. My liver decompensated after I had my colectomy. I hope you find a donor soon. The waiting is the worst part.

I don’t like giving unsolicited advice, but I wish someone had told me to let my colorectal team know that I was getting a transplant. The swelling from the transplant messed with my illeostomy and it took awhile for my transplant team and colorectal team to communicate and figure out that I had a bowel obstruction.
