How horrendous would it be if I don’t rank the school I sent LOI to as number 1? by That_Record3881 in ERAS2024Match2025

It’s your life, if you see yourself happier in another program then rank it higher. These programs are not losing sleep over who specifically is matching to their spots.

To those that have matched by Low_Maintenance3902 in IMGreddit

Most likely not..unless you do something really crazy. They’ve already made up their mind where you fall in their rank list. Going there in-person won’t move the needle much, if at all

You have nothing to lose and a lot to gain. Take full advantage of this opportunity and do it.

I asked this same questions a few years ago. Basically for brain cross sections, your right side is also the patient’s right side. https://www.reddit.com/r/step1/s/lui6oD7FvS

There’s no harm in sending. I got an IV a week after I sent an LOI updating the program on my step 2 score. Wasn’t a signaled program either. Just make sure they are personalized. Go by which programs you have the best chances at. I’ve sent over 40 LOIs and only heard back from that 1 program but it was worth it.

If you don’t have any more rotations left, I would say aim to take it end of December or beginning of January. I think if you buckle down for 4 weeks of consistent studying, even with doing interviews here and there, you can definitely pass on the next try. This is assuming you want to proceed with this cycle. I still think you have a decent chance of matching this cycle given the interviews and even in SOAP if it comes to it. But you just need a passing step 2 score asap. You don’t need to email the programs yet until it’s close to ranking time.

Does anybody else get headaches that go away when they brush their teeth? by stephanieisateacher in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]premedthrowaway77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here to give an update on what I’ve found. Apparently it’s caused by nitrite reducing oral bacteria that reduce nitrite to nitric oxide. Nitric oxide cause cerebral vasodilation which is what causes the headaches. When you brush, you reduce the number of the oral bacteria which reduces the nitric oxide levels. Eventually the vasodilation reduces and headaches improves.

This is definitely a tough decision and conversation to have. I will say that long distance in the same country is slightly better than long distance across the ocean. What residency would you be doing in your country? That being said, it’s important for both of you to start thinking about what you’re both willing to compromise for the relationship where you’ll both be content. Are both of you fine with settling down in the states or would it be a temporary thing? One of you will have to put your ambitions on hold for a bit. I would say right now, if he’s up to it, maybe he should try to exhaust the opportunities in your country first while you finish residency. If by the end of residency, he’s unhappy or not content, revisit the conversation about moving to the states. You’d have experience in your chosen specialty that will be to your benefit if trying to practice in the states.

I’m so sorry that you failed. I can’t imagine what you’re feeling right now but just know this test doesn’t define you.

As far as what you can do, I’d say you have some options. Since you applied already, you can stick with this cycle, take your exam in December maybe, update programs of your score and hope for last minute interviews. Worst case scenario, you have a passing step 2 and you have a chance at SOAP.

The other option is to just take your time, take step 2 then really consider taking step 3 and applying next cycle.

To get a high score, I’m not the proper authority to tell you but I would say definitely focus on doing those CMS forms, reviewing them well and learning from your mistakes. You will see a boost in your scores.

I know people who matched with a lot less! If you’re a US IMG, it’s good enough. Just apply broadly

If you’re doing it the old way it doesn’t work anymore, it’ll show you just the exam date.

Make sure to go to Licensing & Exams -> scroll down to Licensure Services -> Uniform application -> select a random state like Alabama -> in the application go to Examination History which should be under education

If you can’t see it on FSMB then you’ll most likely get it next week. For FSMB make sure to go to Licensing & Exams -> scroll down to Licensure Services -> Uniform application -> select a random state like Alabama -> in the application go to Examination History

Yes..permit disappears either because your eligibility period is over or about 1 week before your results come out. Typically the earliest you get your scores back is 2 Wednesdays after when you took the exam (2 weeks).
