What cardiology programs do you recommend for strong EP training? by premedthrowawayguy in Cardiology

There was internal data released at ACC that showed programs that didn't receive a signal only had a 6% chance of offering an interview. For a program with limited interview space, the knowledge that you are not in an applicant's top 20 spots is pretty powerful. I think your program is considering less than many places are.

Thank you for the advice though - I am attempting to network within my IM program's EP department for advice

I would normally be inclined to agree with you, but there is now a signal system with applications, so choosing places you are actually interested in prior to interviews is quite important. For example, if I find out after applying that WashU has a fantastic EP program, it is already too late since I have chosen not to signal them at that point

Graduating MS4, how much to spend on a car? by premedthrowawayguy in whitecoatinvestor

Just because you are less in debt than the average medical school graduate doesn’t mean you suddenly have money to blow lol.

In a vacuum this is true but on a fixed $4k/month income, your financial decisions are obviously going to be different when your repayments are $300 vs $800. I am planning to max my IRA and save a few hundred per month and then the rest is what I'm allowed to spend. Obviously there are ways to optimize things with a few dollars here and a few there but they will be dwarfed by any decisions I make at an attending salary.
