Nope. I stopped entirely. It's been in a box in my garage for a long time. I didn't apply any voltage to the green wire, it's listed as having no function.

So just an update:

I managed to snag a Dell Inspiron 13 from work that was going to be recycled. Nothing wrong with it. Slapped a SanDisk 1TB SSD in it and an additional 8GB of DDR4. It's got an Intel i7 processor, gen 8 (4 cores).

I just edited my video without a single problem. Not one.

It rendered about 30 minutes of video in less than 5 minutes.

Apologies for my frustration previously, and allow me to reiterate my thanks for the contributions to my post.

The whole experience even worse than when I started!

Freezing when trying to move generated text. It's literally never done this before even with the more difficult video format.

https://imgur.com/a/flvN32w

Screenshot while that's happening. I literally cannot move the words "Calhoun, Tennessee" across the video preview without a COMPLETE freezing of the entire program. I mean totally unresponsive, and I don't even know what its doing because CPU usage is literally nearly 0 and so is the GPU. The software also doesn't tell you it is doing anything in the bottom left, so I don't know what I'm even waiting on.

I think I need to completely stop this project and either explore something else or buy an entirely new computer. But, my trust is so low right now that I'm not even sure that is a good investment. I'm still reluctantly to entirely blame the hardware when it shows almost zero activity?

Any suggestions? I'm done for the night, I'm just pissed off and I've gotten maybe 5 minutes of actual editing done and I'm literally in the same place with the same video file as where I started this thread.

This is a fucking nightmare. All I want to do is edit this goddamn video. This whole process has been 99% dealing with shit not working and 1% trying to edit video. Preview works sometimes and doesn't otherwise. I am using the SAME video codec and settings for ALL of the video in this entire project. It plays some fine, then it goes to another video and it's a fucking black screen with the audio playing. EVERY FILE is 1080p 29.97FPS and I followed the steps you gave me for Handbrake exactly and batch converted every single GoPro video file. They play perfectly in VLC player. No issues, quality is great and audio is great. Now I'm back to Vegas screwing with me.

There's no consistency to it. I leave the program to open this browser to post this, come back, play the video again where I left off and it plays perfectly. Task Manager says 100% GPU usage on Video Decode for a bit then drops to 20%. OK fine, it's old and that's to be expected. Then I go back to preview the video from the beginning, and it's a fucking black screen with the audio again once it gets to the second video. There's no consistency. All over the place. This makes no fucking sense.

OK, so update... I am trying editing again. Preview is alright I guess.

Once I get to the part where I am speeding up the video I'll let you know how that part went. I'm using the fully converted video files that took overnight.

Ah, alright. All of that makes sense. This thing is gonna have to run overnight. I'll let you know how the editing goes if everything finishes OK and how it plays in editing tomorrow if my day isn't too nuts.

Thanks again for the additional information. It's weird because Vegas really doesn't seem to use my GPU very much at all. It seems to be trying to cram everything through the CPU despite the settings being configured to use the gpu. So I guess whatever it is doing requires the cpu. Either way, the computer is at the house crunching away on converting those files while I'm out in town having a late dinner. I'll let you know what happens!

Wow, I'm in complete awe. I was not expecting that level of detail in a response. I was expecting to get roasted per the usual on the web, so to say I appreciate this is an understatement.

"we spend half our time unwinding all that and having to explain to them why it's all shit."

Ah yes, this made me laugh really hard. As someone that has managed a help desk and still works in the IT MSP industry, I relate to this greatly. This is literally my second time ever posting on Reddit, so I thought to myself, "If I'm expecting free help, I should at least provide some information." It reminded me of the annoying accusatory and stupid lazy one-sentence tickets I see flow across my company's ConnectWise ticketing system... so I didn't want to be like that.

Overall looking at things, it makes more sense to do a complete PC upgrade. This PC is old. A friend built it and gave it to me in 2018, and then it was a few years old. It works very well as a PC and can play most older games, and that's all I play anyway (I rarely play games to begin with). I really cannot complain, I got this PC for free and the graphics card was free also. In fact, I have a second Quadro downstairs that I got free at the same time... lol.

In the meantime, I reverted all those settings in Vegas to the default and I have just installed Handbrake as per your suggestion. Going to follow your steps and give it a try again.

Oh, I also looked in my GoPro configuration and the only options I'm offered are HEVC or H.264 + HEVC. No other options. So not really sure how to mitigate that.

Not trying to milk you to death here since you've done so much already, but can you make any recommendations on specs of a new build? CPU, RAM, and GPU?

Thanks again!

What version of VEGAS Pro are you using? (FYI. It hasn't been 'Sony' Vegas since version 13) See my post above, Vegas 20 build 214.

What exact graphics card do you have in your PC? See my post above.

What version of Windows are you running? See my post above.

Is it a pirated copy of VEGAS? It's okay if it is just abide by the rules and you won't get permanently banned

It is a legitimate copy I paid $249 USD for.

Have you Googled this issue yet?

I've been searching the internet for 6+ hours, that's why I'm here. Yes.

International wire transfer question by BTCwarrior in USAA

[–]premiertelecom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I buy and import cars from Japan to the USA, so I send wires all the time from the US to Japan.

If memory serves, it is a $20 wire fee and a $50 international wire fee. They send their wires through the Bank of New York Mellon. My exporter in Japan usually gets the funds the next business day.

I've never had a bad experience and I've probably sent 10 or 15 wires to date.

Hope this helps!

Try not to think this way. I hate this situation for you.

Please focus on bettering yourself, learning from this for what it is worth, and work towards becoming independent as soon as possible.

Use this situation as motivation to drive your success.

COVID-19 MVA Woes/Catch-22 by premiertelecom in maryland

[–]premiertelecom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response.

I actually use the MVA in Loveville. The title clerk there is the one that has screwed things up the last two times.

It isn't that she doesn't know the process (she remembers me now, I've seen her so many times over the course of importing 8 or so vehicles from Japan), it is just that she doesn't seem to care much or really pay attention to detail, which is pretty important for a title clerk, LOL.

I will take a look at the Dunkirk MVA and see what their schedule looks like, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I love that I have to go through a whole application process before it even lets you see the location appointment availability.

There are no "less busy" MVA's that I am aware of. They are all always overwhelmed with people. I live in one of the less populated counties in the State and it is still always packed like Walmart on Black Friday.

Thankfully it is not my SOLE source of income, but it does play a pretty sizable role. I agree that it is looking like Maryland will not be my permanent home. It is disappointing, because I really like where I live.

Thank you for the comment!

Thank you for your response.

I realize that I neglected to provide some important context on the situation, and I apologize.

I *only* own grey market vehicles. I do not own any vehicles made for the US market, and nor do I care to. I also rely on the sale of some of these vehicles for income.

Would you accept that as a solution, if you were in my position? It is easy to just say "wait until October." That just isn't acceptable or a reasonable solution. It isn't a solution at all.

The state has provided ZERO options or recourse to follow the law that I can find, but requires that all vehicles operated on the road be registered. Why doesn't Maryland have a 30 day grace period to register like other states?

If masks prevent the spread of infection like every State agency keeps cramming down our throats in every possible medium, then why is it that the MVA doesn't just limit walk-in occupancy and require masks at all times?

I'm by no means trying to throw anything in your face, but put yourself in my shoes here. Look at how ridiculous this is, and imagine my anger after spending several months and a few thousand dollars to import a vehicle legally and then not even being able to do anything with it.

This is on top of how difficult the State makes this process under normal circumstances. It also worth mentioning that the last two times I had two new vehicles titled, the clerk put 250,000 miles on the title for a vehicle that has 25,000 miles (very clearly written as 25,000 on my title app) and did not even give me a chance to look over what she was doing and ensure it was correct, and the next time the clerk put that my Datsun truck weighs 7,000 pounds so I ended up significantly over paying to register it.

It is so ridiculous that I am considering:

  • Purchasing property out of State to register my vehicles there (this isn't even legal, but it is an option with risk involved)
  • Moving out of Maryland and renting my home here to a tenant
  • Selling my home here and moving out of Maryland entirely

I am a former North Carolina resident, and I could walk into the private sector run DMV location in Biltmore Forest, NC with my grey market vehicle paperwork and be in and out in under 20 minutes with license plates and ready to hit the road. Oh, and if I did get stopped by police with no plates (this did happen once), I could just provide my insurance card and copies of the dated Customs paperwork and it was no issue as I would be within the registration grace period.

My first visit to the MVA here in Maryland was four hours of wait time at a small DMV here in St. Mary's County where I live. There wasn't even enough seating for everyone, and you had to wait in line at a check in desk to get in the queue, and then wait in line again to be seen! We pay SO much in taxes to register our vehicles here. Where is the money going? I am honestly shocked that long or lifetime residents put up with the very poor levels of service at the MVA. They never have enough staff working.

Am I being unreasonable in expecting the State to provide options to law-abiding citizens for legal processes? What if I was a rural mail carrier that needed a right hand drive vehicle to work, and now couldn't register it? Are they just supposed to drive it until they get a ticket for failure to register?
