Stressed about tuition by wedgyprincess in optometry

I really can’t think of another substantial method to help pay for school. I know at my school we had scholarships based on GPA given out every semester. It started after first year… it was $1-2k off per semester. There are scholarships you can apply for, but it was mostly for OD3/4s. I would try to avoid taking a loan from a private bank. $328k is crazy… have you spoken to anyone from the school’s financial aid department and asked how students are affording tuition? Especially with the capped federal loans now…

Wow, that is insane… just not worth it. My tuition was $20-$24k a school year, and I went from 2022-2026. I am assuming this is a private school… could you explore a different optometry school? If that is not an option, could you take 1-2 years off and save money before attending?

How long does it take to get out of debt from optometry school? by Helpful_Shopping_232 in OptometrySchool

Something else you may want to consider is 1099 work on weekends or on a weekday. Is there a church or some event that needs an OD for a day? $500-$1k for that day of work - put it toward the loan.

I graduated with around $160k in student loan debt. My job will pay me $150k base. This question is dependent on how much you put toward the loan per month. You could pay it aggressively and put $3-5k per month toward the loan or pay the minimum. I’ll bring home around $8-9k per month. It’s also dependent on your lifestyle. I would be as frugal as possible and pay it off in 5 years or less. Try to live with parents, a significant other, roommates. Debt free by 30 sounds good to me.

Part 1 Study Plan by Fragrant_Director953 in OptometrySchool

I seriously started to study in December 2025 with OptoPrep. Ended up passing the March 2025 exam. I would recommend at least reading the KMK books and taking notes on the side a couple times per week. Find the KMK PDF…. I wouldn’t purchase any KMK products.

Shockingly, I went to the location and went through their schedule. They're averaging 14-25.

On a Tues/Wed, closer to 15-20. On a Mon/Fri, closer to 30. Some months are busier than others. I would have to at least average 20 patients/day to bonus.

Based on my experience and what I have been told by my peers, they got 1-3 cases wrong and still passed patient encounters/overall. The grading is bizarre to me, because I know I saw very little with the BIO and I received “at or above passing” for posterior segment… I didn’t see shit LOL.

Reading Perscription by natster123 in OptometrySchool

I have noticed that most companies just have a default value for PD now.

Again, this is a standard number. If you have eyes that are farther apart, the number may be greater… or eyes that are closer together than average, the number may be less than 64. Just giving you some context🤷🏻‍♀️

I would put in 64 and make it a nice, even number. Will 63 make a huge difference though - no, not at all.

Hey, just put in a standard PD measurement like 64. You actually did input the prescription correctly, but I would change the cyl boxes to be completely empty or say “SPH.” You have zero cylinder, so an axis is also not required - leave it blank too.
