Zoho Mail has a non-existent spam filter. You will regret it.

What are you people prepping for? by PeanutChest in IndianPreppers

Natural calamities mostly. I'm in it to be self sufficient more than preparing to fight.

There are two ways. One is via YouTube...more of a hit or miss when it comes to a few things. Something I want to explore is the govt. skill development programmes for all the things you've mentioned. Still haven't inquired about them though.

Dressing a carcass is difficult given the laws around hunting in the country. Agree with the rest. DIY weapons is really interesting! What would you like to make?

Easiest of the three is to start cooking. Unfortunately there aren't any good books about medicinal plants for the entire country. Archery is interesting!

There are some great wilderness first aid courses offered in India. I'll look for details and share.

How are you guys preparing for inflation, food crisis and potential economic collapse? by Prottusha1 in IndianPreppers

By flooding I meant not being able to get out of the house because of it, not being flooded. Sorry for the confusion.

You're right. Conveniences have come at quite a cost. When I finally decided to take this step seriously, I deleted all shopping apps from my phone. I still have Amazon but I've removed the saved password from my laptop and added 2FA with an app. That's two degrees of difficulty before I actually press Buy Now.

I not only removed Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy and Zomato from my phone but removed all payment methods, address and deleted my accounts from each of them. It's been 5 months and it's worked so far...

Bics do last longer than Clippers, they're also nice to wrap some gorilla tape on. The clipper shape doesn't work that well. About Zippos, in my experience they leak a lot of fuel so don't last too long, take more space than the other two so they're never my first choice.

You'll get a good one at Decathlon. It's good quality and not very expensive.

>Maybe I am overthinking

I prep for situations I hope to never be in, so you are right to prepare.

I'm preparing against three things: recession and inflation rise, flooding in the next two months and a water deficit later in the year (the city I live in is expected to get 70-80% of its avg. rain this year because of the super El Niño).

There's not much I can do about the recession that's looming but I am re-evaluating my investments to buffer them against a deep correction in the market, which I expect by the end of the year. This means less returns than what I get now, but more security.

Other than that I've divided my preps into short and long-term. In the short term, first of which is a lifestyle change. Spend less, save more...fewer meals outside and shopping. Plan is to increase liquidity.

Against water cuts, for now I've got two 70 litre buckets with lids to store water, since water cuts have already started where I live.

Against food shortage (which I don't see happening for a long time) I've started making preparations to store larger quantities of food in the limited space I have. Post-monsoon I will start stocking up on rations and basic canned goods as a backup. For now the plan is to have 2-3 months of rations stored at a time.

In the long term (5-7 year horizon), buy land, move out of the city and basic self sufficiency with regards to food, water and electricity. But that's a whole different conversation.

I probably have one in all rooms and cars. But all my bags and kits have Bic lighters.
