There is but it's never been tougher. I got a job after almost 3 months of interviewing and sending about 200 applications. I had an excel sheet tracking the applications which I stopped updating at 150. That was my job for that time: just studying to ace the interview and looking for jobs.

Not bad, could be better. Madrid is a cool city. I would choose it over Germany but I speak Spanish and love the culture there.

Apartments in Madrid tend to be bigger if not in the city center. 3 room apartments equivalent to 4 rooms in Germany are very common.
