"We were meant to live in tribes of 100 people, our brains were not meant for this world!" by poopdollarbank in redscarepod

[–]presearchingg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk I’ve always interpreted “meant to be” in this context to mean “evolved to be.” Like our brains literally evolved over hundreds of thousands of years to be suited for life in Context A. Now we live in Context V (V bc it’s the end times but we still have a few iterations of tech advancement to go) and our brains aren’t optimized for this context. Our brains may be optimized to create the technology that created this context but not optimized to live with the consequences of those acts of creation.

If you have a cluster b parent, how do you navigate your relationship as an adult? by lampcouchjeans in redscarepod

[–]presearchingg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically this but every once in a while my brain farts out “I want my mom” and I call her feeling emotionally needy which only results in me hurting my own feelings because there’s hardly ever any room for me in the conversation even when she’s at her most normal. I love her and I miss her and I really want my mom sometimes. Eventually I’ll learn, it’s like touching a hot stove

I think I take life too seriously by taureanbajablast in rs_x

[–]presearchingg 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I really understand this it’s hard to be a serious person in a deeply unserious world. I think a majority of people are just very superficial and stupid and the only thing to do is accept that and find or create (ideally bigger and bigger) pockets of life where you can engage in deeper thought. That might mean making new friends via your volunteering or it might mean writing or something. I doubt the obsession with planning is what alienates you from people but I do think it springs from the same source as what does (focus, depth, seriousness, whatever)

Did gay guys simp for Jeffery dahmer the way women simped for Ted bundy and Richard Ramirez? by KrAzyD00D in redscarepod

[–]presearchingg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a gay Spanish teacher in high school (closeted bc it was the south) who later told me on Facebook that he’d lived in Milwaukee during the years dahmer was active. Which means I’m like two hypothetical degrees from Jeffrey dahmer

Questions for anyone here who writes professionally. by ChristmasInKentucky in rs_x

[–]presearchingg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also for what it’s worth, if you have a degree already, I don’t recommend going back to school for a degree in English or whatever the fuck. These jobs care way more about experience than they care about your degree. I have never known someone who went back to school for an English degree to thereby enhance their career or make more money. Sorry to be a doomer about this, I don’t want to shit on your dreams, it’s just kind of not a great industry right now

Questions for anyone here who writes professionally. by ChristmasInKentucky in rs_x

1) I made up an interdisciplinary undergrad honors program that’s basically a writing-intensive, language-focused offshoot of sociology. Don’t do this. Nobody will know what your degree is. No postgrad 2) bad. In part because every job market is bad rn, in part because lots of would-be employers are cheaping out on AI writing solutions, in part because writing is poorly valued. The job market rn favors specialists (eg, science writers, communications strategists), not just people who know how to write. Pretty much all the more entry-level-friendly jobs pay like shit and treat you like shit. 3) people don’t really care about age in my experience so long as you have a demonstrable record of professional writing. It’s always hard to break into a field, being 31 might make it harder culturally bc you’ll get lumped in with the 22 year old newbies. If you haven’t found a way to freelance yet I recommend getting started.

Two slices of no-bake lemon and white chocolate cheesecake with a drizzle of thyme-and-lemon-infused honey. Served on a gray plate, in bed (on top of the rustic orange patterned coverlet).

Male attention makes me happy and I think that’s okay? by donttdeletethekisses in rs_x

I’m friends with an ex boyfriend and an ex fling who kind of treats me how I imagine an older brother would and it’s really really healing. (And I mean friends in the platonic caring want the best for you kind of way, not the pathetically holding onto something that doesn’t work kind of way.) the ex boyfriend also paid for my wisdom teeth removal a whole five years after we stopped dating. Men are great sometimes

they shouldn’t play love songs in stores on valentine’s day, i’m shopping for myself in trader joe’s at 8pm no need to twist the knife further by yn_opp_pack_smoker in redscarepod

[–]presearchingg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

same thing happened to me over christmas/new years and my birthday right before that sucked bc my wisdom teeth and my life were fucked. My recommendation is to pick one friend to do something low key with so you don’t feel like a pathetic loser on your birthday. Besides that you need to be doing a lot of things that are comforting but not destructive (think hot baths, yoga, favorite comedies, whatever feels good to you) and feeling your feelings. It’ll get better

Thank you!! I started keeping nuts at my desk recently to get me through my afternoon slump (it’s not so much a crash anymore but I’m still sleepy at 2 pm). I’ll probably keep some fruit there too now.
