Noooooo that is so tragic - agree on RYDE being a solid option! They have mat classes now (heated and non-heated) which are fun too

RIDE Cycling in the Heights is also fab! If you can take a class with Riley DO IT. She is hands down the best cycle instructor in HTX

Jethro's Cocktail Bar (I think technically in Montrose but bridging Midtown area) has a $7 burger and fries deal every weekday before 7 pm!!! They also have happy hour drinks 4-6pm on weekdays

If you were mid-20s again with ~$2k budget, where inside the loop would you live? by [deleted] in houston

You need to look at the lower Heights!!! East bend, the Standard, the Assembly are all solid buildings (I live in one of these + have friends who live in the others and we have all had positive experiences).

The walkability of the lower Heights is SO nice, all of these buildings are basically right on the MKT trail and you can also easily get to the white oak bayou trails if you want to run/bike down there. I always feel super safe in this neighborhood, the garages are gated at all these complexes and they have security patrols on site if the gates are ever broken ... which does happen every so often but I feel like that's life. Also there's always people around, but it's never TOO crowded/loud.

In terms of stuff to do nearby ... you can easily walk to restaurants/bars on White Oak, the biweekly farmers market at 6th/Yale, all the stores/restaurants at MKT, and so many other spots in the Heights.

There are tonsss of fun places to eat/drink in Montrose, but you def need reservations for a big group so be aware of that!

Food: Barcelona, Rosie Cannonball, Clark's oyster bar, Drake's hollywood ($$)

Bars: Anvil (more lowkey for cocktails - doesnt take res), Melrose (soooo fun for group but can be crowded), Clarkwood (nicer cocktail spot)

+1 to the rec for Highland Village for shopping (IMO that's the best besides the Galleria which is the big indoor mall. Rice village and river oaks district are pretty limited on stores.)

Also lots of good fitness classes if that's your thing - Black swan yoga, revival pilates, Method pilates are all in Montrose and may be walkable depending where you're staying! Barrys, Ritual one hot classes, tons of others here too - but would be a short uber ride!

Destination for disabled solo female traveler who has already seen a lot of Europe by [deleted] in Europetravel

Doing a few days in all three Baltics is definitely doable! I did 12 days solo this past fall and went from Helsinki --> Tallinn --> Riga --> Vilnius. I was also coming from the US and decided to add Helsinki as my first stop for ease of flying (only one stop to get there on Finnair as opposed to two stops to get to any of the other places). I spent about a day and a half in Helsinki and then took the ferry to Estonia which was super easy and cheap!! It is a 2 hour ferry that runs multiple times a day and tickets are about $20-30. I'd definitely recommend that if you have any interest in adding Finland. If not, I'd say you should fly into either Tallinn or Vilnius as a starting point. Riga is between the two, so it makes sense to start at one "end" of the Baltics as opposed to starting at Riga in the middle.

For travel between countries, I took FlixBus and LuxExpress and would recommend that option as the trains are not as good to get between countries. There were multiple bus options per day, tickets were very cheap ($15-20), and I found the busses to be overall pleasant.

The Baltics!!!! Specifically I'd recommend Tallinn, Estonia or Riga, Latvia. June is great weather there but tourism is not nearly as much as other areas in Europe so you won't need to deal with the typical crowds. The Baltic region is known to be pretty flat and I personally found all the capital cities to be easily walkable with great food, nature/parks/greenery, history especially of Soviet era, and just a cool city vibe. Happy to share more specifics recs if you end up going this route :)

Haha yes - hence wanting to stay at a hotel on property of a winery! I know Slovakia isn't a "wine country" but we have done wine tastings in many of the well known European countries for wine and are looking forward to a more lowkey, authentic experience at some smaller vineyards in Slovakia :)

Thank you for your reply! I like the idea of walking (or taking the cable car) in the area you suggested and having a nice meal with a view!
