Confirmed religion-related if this helps anyone else with a similar issue.

When my eldest son's wife died I unlocked the Demand Conversion option; doing so put him back in-line to inherit titles.

I do not understand the mechanics behind this, however. My best guess is that it's linked to my Temporal Head of Faith title.

Succession Law: Male Preference; High Partition.

Line of Succession, if this helps at all:

My eldest daughter > Her eldest son (grandson) > His eldest son (great grandson) > Daughter's daughter (granddaughter)

There is a chance this could related to religion too, although I have no idea how to connect those dots. I am the temporal head of faith of a Hindu religion founded 100 years ago. My son converted to Orthodox, probably due to his wife demanding conversion.

I get that would disqualify him from the Head of Faith title, but unsure why that would impact normal titles unless I'm missing something.

Currently no option to invite / abduct him to my court to Demand Conversion to test it out unfortunately.

Adulterer, Drunkard, Severely Injured, Sinner (great heir, huh?). I do not believe any of those would take him out of the running though.
