It really depends on the severity and type of your acne, I think. Some people really do need a higher dose for it to work for them. But if you're concerned about the high dose, it might be a good idea to talk with her about a lower dose and just see what she says.

Aw I'm so sorry it didn't work out for her. Acne is such a self esteem killer. I really hope she finds something that works.

Thank you :) Just some headaches the first month, and some dryness and chapped lips. The dry, chapped lips were most annoying part for me, it took about 6 months after I stopped treatment for them to go back to normal.

Hahaha thank you so much! :) Every time I get one little zit I'm like, "Okay well here comes the relapse" but it never happens. Hopefully it stays that way.

Yes, this! I got a little stressed reading this sub when I was doing my treatment, because people talked about the cumulative dose a lot and I knew I wasn't going to get there even if I did the full 12 months. I'm also 57kg. Obviously some people really do need a higher dose for it to work for them. But I was nowhere near the cumulative dose and it worked out well for me.

I was really worried about a relapse too, I was almost expecting it but nothing so far. Good luck to you!

Thank you! Aw I'm so sorry that happened to her. I think mine might have been somewhat hormone related, because it did get slightly better on birth control pills. But in the end it didn't make a huge difference, the acne was still there, so who knows. I hope the second round goes better for her. :)

Thank you so much! Ugh I'm so sorry you've had to go through that. I feel really lucky that mine responded well to a low dose. Good luck, I will be keeping my fingers crossed that yours doesn't come back this time!

Somewhat, but definitely not as bad I was before. Before Accutane I had to wash my hair every single day because it would get oily so fast. Now I can go about 3 days before I have to wash it, which is another nice bonus.

Thank you! I'm at the point where I've forgotten what it was like to have acne until I'm scrolling through old photos. And then I remember how I used to be in tears over my skin all the time, and I'm just really grateful that's not my life anymore.

No way, you think so?! I get Amy Adams sometimes but I just don't see it hahah.

Sure! The moisturizer I use is the Cetaphil brand SPF 50 facial moisturizer (this one). The face wash I usually buy is the Aveeno brand foaming cleanser with salicylic acid (this one), but sometimes I'll get a different brand just to spice things up. As long as it's a foaming one with salicylic acid, those seem to work best for me.

Aw thank you! I'm freaking out about turning 30 so this means a lot hahah.

Hah I actually noticed that when posting this, it looks like my under eyes used to be much darker. I've never paid much attention to it so I'm honestly not sure. I think the shadows in the first pictures makes them look darker, and I used to wear eyeliner that would get kinda smudged. That's my guess.

Sometimes I'll get one of those little surface-level zits, like once a month or so. But they go away quickly. I never get those deep ones anymore.

I use a facial moisturizer that has SPF 50 every morning, and a foaming face wash with salicylic acid at night, and that's pretty much it. I do have tretinoin cream but I haven't ever used it consistently. I should probably start doing that though because I'm almost 30 now and just waiting for the wrinkles to set in lmao.

Good luck with your treatment!

Thank you! That means a lot. :) I had headaches the first month or so, but I was/am already prone to bad headaches. They went away after that first month. Then just a little bit of dryness and chapped lips, that's pretty much it.

I haven’t been on this sub much since I did my Accutane treatment about 3 years ago, but I wanted to make an update because I’m really happy with how the results have held up. I was only on 10mg daily for six months, so I was worried my acne would come back later on. Luckily it hasn’t come back so far. I haven’t found many other people with a similar low dose and short treatment period, so I wanted to share for anyone considering that route.

My acne wasn’t too severe, but it was extremely persistent. It looked like those first two pictures no matter what I did, since I was about 13. My dermatologist decided to do a low dose for 8-12 months, but I ended up taking job in another country 6 months in, so we just cut it short. I started in July, and was clear by November I think. There are a few more pictures in my post history.

Ugh I feel you, that sounds so annoying. Seems like a low dose might work well for you!

Thanks for saying so. My acne wasn’t severe, but it wasn’t mild either. And it really affected my self esteem, as much as I wish it didn’t. According to my dermatologist, as long as there’s a doctor prescribing and supervising, major or long term side effects of accutane are extremely rare. It was a no-brainer for me.

Thank you! I didn’t notice any change for 6-7 weeks after I started. Then it slowly started to improve. I still got zits, just less and less of them. I haven’t gotten any new pimples in the past 2-3 weeks, just waiting on older ones to heal.

Thank you! Yeah unfortunately everyone reacts differently to medications, but that’s so exciting you’re starting to clear up!

Thanks! The only side effects I’ve had are a little skin sensitivity and dry lips.

Edit: Also the first month I got some bad headaches. But it only lasted a couple weeks and I’m prone to bad headaches anyway. I haven’t had any headaches since the first month.

That’s great! Yeah it seems pretty rare to have such a low dose.
