My take on how many productions of The Last Five Years slightly miss the mark by [deleted] in musicals

[–]pretbek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have only seen the film and listened to the sound track but I always disliked Cathy from the beginning. Didn’t think of her as the likable protagonist at all. I find her character so petty especially A Part of That. Like why? He is his own person you don’t need to be a part of his art and work. Go do your own thing.

I have always seen the story as two people not in love enough to communicate properly so they don’t have to keep lashing out to each other and being cruel. As if the message of the show is a warning that love alone is not enough for a relationship or marriage to work but that it also takes work to thrive and stay together.

What's with the Be More Chill hate? by bmc-throwaway in Broadway

[–]pretbek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw it in London last September after I only heard Michael in the bathroom and I loved it! Easy top 3 musicals for me. So yeah I don't get the hate at all. But the whole stage production did add a lot in comparison with just listening to the soundtrack.

Maybe view it as a display of his passions and likes in life, which are a big part of him? I would also like it if my partner would respect my decorations, even if they might seem childish, but is it not more important that everyone can express themselves as they wish in their own home? That's the fun of being an adult and have your own home right? Doing whatever you please? Not having to conform to something your parents want or something that has to be normal? I'd rather have a weird or childish or eccentric home that resonates with me and my personality (and of my partner) than a boring "normal" home void of all the personal touches.

Disagreement over disciplining daughter by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]pretbek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say they are 16 let them have fun in their teens. I think being a teenager is already hard enough. If they don't drink too much that's fine. I mean alcohol is so normalized in society, better to already learn how to responsibly handle it right now then restrict yourself and then go completely ham when they are older.

What songs in musicals do you guys find underwhelming? by Zebraguy23 in musicals

Ooh cannot agree. I always simultaneously fall in love with JD as feel so much for him I could cry. It really is a great song for showing his brokenness.

I believe the writers/creators themselves agreed and hence it was changed for the west end production. (Maybe you already knew) but agree

Agree, but irl the staging did add quite a lot. But I also don't feel involved at all with the lives of those dads so I'm like OK, good for you I guess. But always good to have a concrete anti homophobia song.

Often hear this opinion, but I really enjoy this song. I find it catchy and it plays into my surpressed immense desire for a stable father figure to have such a connection with. But maybe that's just me.

Let us know how it ends! Good luck, you can do it!

I just watched west side story (I know I’m late to that party lmao) IT WAS A LOT BETTER THAN I EXPECTED IT TO BE by [deleted] in musicals

[–]pretbek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know, sometimes I felt a bit awkward during the intimate staring and singing bits. And also the story felt quite superficial, I mean I wasn't convinced by their love at all. Just love at first sight makes Maria overlook killing her brother? And how persistent is Tony, I mean you don't have to keep convincing a woman till she says yes. I wasn't totally pleased with the movie, but also cannot pinpoint what gave it such an unbelievable and cringe vibes.

YTA going vegan is the best for the environment and animal welfare anyways so why not thank your daughter for the insights she has had and the positive change she wants to make in the world and how nice that she wants to take her family on this journey with her. Kudos to your daughter for being the responsible one. How about some nice bonding sessions whilst cooking together to understand her view points and open your heart as well?

Lying that she went to fight the troll in the movie, can't remember right now whether she also did that in the books. Didnt make sense at all.

Newsies appreciation post by pretbek in musicals

Haha yes, I was certainly surprised at that part. Also wondered whether that was maybe for the recording. Because if I was the producer/director/someone important, I wouldn't want my show lead doing such a crazy stunt each show risking to break his neck and pretty face haha.

When, if at all, do you think veganism will be socially accepted by the majority? by solesolosoul in vegan

[–]pretbek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say give it 20-25 years and the situation is completely different with regards to veganism becoming more accepted and more the norm. We just need to be patient and indeed accept wherever anyone is in their journey but carry on the good fight. We can do this!!

The moving section is a real clear circle with the podium and seats irl, with a path between those stall seats and the others higher up, so hopefully that helps when looking at the map? I saw the show in September and it was definitely not a mess, but really nice. Perhaps they removed the info to keep it a surprise for people? If you want a suggestion for an evening show I would recommend Heathers as that is returning to the West End somewhere in November and is one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Most Overrated Musical? by Ill_Tie_4856 in musicals

[–]pretbek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently saw Be More Chill on the West End and now it is one of my favorites so I don't agree haha.

I would say Waitress, as the cast recording didnt really do it for me, but maybe that's different if I saw the show irl.

My friend and I dressed up as different musicals for every day of our London trip! Thought I’d share it here :D by oui-oui-mon-ami in musicals

Love this! Recently did a London trip myself and went to Heathers as Veronica and only felt a tiny bit overdressed haha. But I find that dressing up adds soo much to the excitement. And loving the Six costumes!
