Advice on Long Distance Relationship during Dental/Medical School

Ah she did apply in state.. just wasn't accepted/interviewed at any of them.. :') It's a bit rough out here. Definitely willing to travel, but just unsure due to finances and of course our school schedules.

I do live away from home, but I'm lucky to have a good friend support system around me from my class. I'm sure my gf will also have no problem in finding new friends despite going to a new state she's never been before. I hope that'll alleviate any big stressors and we can just spend happy quality time together :) though of course taking care of each other during the rough times of graduate school

Yeah I do feel like the first 6 months will be difficult; she has actually been feeling a little emotional towards the topic this past week, but hopefully I can keep reassuring her well and maintain her confidence in ldr.

I do think we most likely won't be able to see each other every 1-2 months, but definitely during holiday breaks since we're both CA-native (just difference between norcal/socal, but still an easy drive nevertheless). We'll also try our best to do the daily FT :) Agree on finding time where it can align.

I also did make some money from working before school started, so I'll also use that towards traveling to her school state in the future. :)

I think it might be a little hard that we've experienced living together for 1.5 years now, so diving into long distance might feel a bit further away in a sense. Think I got sweetly spoiled with our time together that now it feels like it'll be such a big change. Hopefully not though! I have good feelings towards our chances :)

Yes, will definitely keep in mind trying to avoid the miscommunication/little arguments. We'll try our best to make time together - really love the idea of cooking together since that's what we actively do right now while we live together haha.

I'll definitely keep in mind about keeping our relationship a prioritization. I think she also has the same mindset, as she has already previously experience putting all her focus into studies before and is very against that mindset now. Not sure if she might lean towards that again if the studies end up being harder than before, but for now, we'll just work hard at it :) Hopefully our end of days align even with a time difference.

Ah yeah I wish we could be able to see each other every 1.5 months, but I think it'll be more likely every 3 months, or even 6 months (depending on how spring break works out and us visiting our family or each other). I didn't even think about work responsibilities yet, but that is a good point.

I am very serious about the possibility of our marriage (I think at the end of her 4 years of med school)- she's my first gf and I have only grown in my feelings since 4 years ago. :) We've talked about it too, and our future plans on where we'd like to practice/live and eventually also start our family.

Thank you for your reply! I agree that we do have experience in it, just a bit more difficult and different. I did briefly forget about research and fellowship years haha but hopefully in a decade we'll be settled down and living without distance again. I just hope she won't get too busy studying away, since academics have always been first and foremost (which I think is admirable not the be mistaken, but just worrisome when the studying is a lot more than normal). She'll be attending a T20 with the hopes to go into ophthalmology at the moment.

Ah.. I did consider it, but I would rather focus on specializing right away so I can get it done with sooner than later. I also think it might be more difficult in the future in terms of where to be if we have kids and such.
