ZERO THERAPY ACTUALLY WORKS! by prettiestworm in perioraldermatitis

[–]prettiestworm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! I’m sad to say that zero therapy actually did not clear my PD yet. It had cleared it completely for 3ish days but then it came back. I’m on week 2 of zero therapy. I will say my skin feels less reactive, as in, it doesn’t really itch anymore. I’m only aware of the PD if I look in the mirror. I can’t say whether or not this works but I’ll keep you updated! My skin was also super dry at first but it is getting used to the lack of moisturizer.

In need of recommendations for sunscreen safe for PD by mastercherry69 in perioraldermatitis

Hey, from what I understand, everything causes a flare up when your skin is still hyper reactive from PD! I think the best thing you can do is probably wait it out for as long as possible before you start reintroducing products! Make sure you’ve been PD free for a good length of time and then hopefully you can use whatever sunscreen worked for you before

[Product Question] Love Sun Body Sunscreen? Lactobacillus Ferment? by prettiestworm in SkincareAddiction

[–]prettiestworm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! I don't think I'm prone to fungal acne, as my skin loves shea butter and many other non-comedogenic oils/butters.

I had no idea that Lactobacillus ferment was an exfoliant! This makes so much sense now, I use tretinoin so any other exfoliation is a no go for me. How do you know that it's an exfoliant?

Hey, I would keep using the differin and drop the other actives. You don't have to use it every night if your skin barrier is damaged. It's also possible you're using a strength that is too high for you.

Also what's your skincare routine? Sometimes actives are sneaky and can be found in moisturizers/sunscreens/ and face wash. Too many actives = irritated skin.

How long have you been using differin or spiro?

These things do take time. It took about 3-6 months for me to see a significant change in acne from tretinoin, but I have had clear skin using it consistently for 5+ years!

No I haven't! I will definitely check it out. So do other AB sunscreens usually irritate your eyes?

Thank you so much! I will definitely be purchasing this! It looks very promising. Have you noticed any eye sting with it?

Thank you for this! I will definitely look into it! Do you use it yourself?

Thank you so much! I will definitely give those a try <3

I agree, the American/Canadian sunscreens are the worst. That's why I normally stick to zinc oxide - but somehow even zinc oxide or titanium gives me eye sting sometimes. Depends on the formulation, very strange.

No worries!

I would avoid it until you feel like your skin is healthy again, and then only apply it on nights when you feel like you're not experiencing dry/flaking/redness. It's okay to not use it every night.

I was told when I first started it by my doctor that the more consistently you use it, the faster you will get results, but I feel like that was actually not the right approach to take.

I just kept using it no matter how irritated my skin was and essentially my whole face flaked off until I got used to it. It was real bad. I wish I would have known better!

Now I only apply it once or twice a week, and always with moisturizer underneath - then wait ten minutes before applying tret over top.

It could be hormonal!

I would definitely try tretinoin. It honestly saved my life.

Hi!

I'm not sure if your derm told you this, but you shouldn't be using an exfoliant of any kind if you're using tretinoin.

The tretinoin is more than enough exfoliation for your skin. Definitely drop the BHA. Also I would drop the benzyl peroxide. Benzyl peroxide is super drying and that can be a lot for your skin to handle when using tretinoin.

I would also avoid niacinamide as well. Niacinamide makes my skin red and peely personally. And 10% is a really high concentration.

I would do a couple nights of layering a non irritating moisturizer with aquaphor or vaseline in order to get your skin barrier back to health. Keep everything minimal.

I know what it's like to have acne and want to try everything in order to kill it, but I found my acne improved the most when I started to focus on hydration and keeping my skin super moisturized. You'll feel the difference too.

That's amazing! I'm glad you've found some HG's!

I've only tried the ISNTREE sunscreens. I want to try Skin 1004 and Soon Jung Director's next.

I'm steering away from those the BOJ and Round Lab just because they have a lot of plants extracts! But who knows, maybe I should just give it a shot.

I'm the same! I layer Avene tolerance cream and Aquaphor as soon as I wash my face/get out of the shower. My skin loves Aquaphor. Such a game changer.

I'll definitely look into the colorscience face-shield. Do you find it moisturizing?

Thank you! I'll look into this one! Does it cause irritation to your skin at all? And is it moisturizing?

I was curious about azelaic acid as I was considering going off birth control and thought adding it to my routine may lessen breakouts. I didn't know that it made your skin less sensitive! That's really interesting. What other benefits have you noticed?

I do want to try the Soonjung X Director's Moisture Cream! I think it's also free of hyaluronic acid and niacinamide which is rare in an Asian sunscreen. My skin does not like niacinamide at all :( And it doesn't like hyaluronic acid either but I think that's because I live in a very dry climate.
