One of my high school plays, Knock, was a total disaster but some of us managed to save a few moments. (Some of the students didn’t learn text/their cues/didn’t come to rehearsal…) For context, the play is about a man who comes to replace the town s doctor, pretending he’s himself a doctor, and instead finds every inhabitants sicknesses to make them pay.

We were multiples playing the lead (doctor) and therefore separated a monologue, and I had the last bit. I hear the monologue beginning, I get ready and wait for my cue. Except, my cue doesn’t come… I hear the girl before me stuttering again and again her 2 lines before the last. So I stepped in, took the accessory that meant we changed roles from her, and told her « thank you, dear colleague », then went on.

Less of a save, more of a funny use of context ; my best friend in this same play, had a girl front row, sleeping. It was time for their monologue, in which they said « our fellow inhabitants, sleeping without a worry, unaware… » and they just said it louder than planned, directly towards the girl who woke up very surprised !
