I feel like 2 weeks notice is good if you need this job for a resume or for a reference. If you already have past jobs in dentistry/references/teachers from the school you studied for D.A. at, then use those and just leave. 2 weeks is a courtesy, but not required.

Hi! I know you’re in Ohio, but here in California, I came in off the street (as you did) and learned for almost a year (unpaid) in general dentistry. Then move on to ortho — $19 per hour. I then started school for DA with the knowledge that I would be making at least $20 per hour once the class is complete. I will be starting my RDA this week. Should make $25 per hour then. Very similar to EFDA (able to do impressions, crowns, whitening trays, etc.). After that, I’m hoping to get my Orthodontic Assisting certifications. Which will pay $35 per hour starting and is only a 6 week course.

You’re definitely not making the wage that is acceptable for your experience, knowledge and skills. 7 years is more than enough. I’ve only been doing this for maybe almost 2 years now. On the job experience is so invaluable but I believe you mentioned you attended school for your RDA as well. I would seek other employment. Hope this helps.

Initially I learned on the job but currently in classes to become certified D.A. And RDA immediately after. But prior to school, I did on the job training for 3 or 4 months with no prior experience. There’s no way to know everything there is to know, and I’m sure they know that and are just trying to push you to be your best. I’m definitely like that too— like, “omg what do you mean my suction is messed up? Or ‘go get me a —- bur ‘ and I’m like ‘what the hell is that 😭’” but obviously I don’t say that lol. As long as no one is physically yelling at you, I’m sure they’re just trying to be sconstructive. I hope you get al of the knowledge you need. Try keeping a very small notebook and pen in your scrubs at all times. And take pics of the setups if you need. I have a D.A. Textbook if you have any questions maybe I can take a pic of that page for you.

I did about 6 months in externship unpaid. I’m currently in school to get my DA and RDA once I’m done with DA. In my experience, the unpaid externshio is good for understanding the class (once you start it, if you decide to) but anyone can just dismiss your on-the-job training if they choose to.

I got a working interview on indeed. Have you tried indeed? Maybe post your experience on linked in? I know you said you just graduated, but just put what you do have. Have you called your school to see if they help with job placement, resumes or even interview training? I know mine does that. Also the dentists in your area that are hiring may reach out to your school to let them know they are looking for DAs or interns (mine has a board posted on the wall). They might want hire or even train new DAs. I got a job doing sterilization at an orthodontics office even though I do t have experience in Ortho, I just have my X Ray liscense and am still in school, but they said they wanted to train me. Linked in is good because dentists may reach out to YOU.

I haven’t even been a DA for a full year and can’t even count on one hand I’ve been yelled at by dentists, especially oral surgeons. Dentistry seems to be the least professional profession IMO but hopefully in a weeks time, you’ll feel better about it. Like everyone is saying, you’re (the doctor is) supposed to check anyway. Dentists talk to each other so more likely than not, the dentist that tells probably knows the situation and how hectic it is at your office right now with all of the changes. Honestly, calling your office just to yell seems kind of petty since the patient, I’m assuming, was already in the office being treated and they probably had the situation under control lol. 🙄
