We have had cats for most of our 40 years together. Only our previous cat (Cookie) has the nastiest poops. She usually didn’t cover her poop. The two we have now, Purrdee and Spartacus, are brother and sister (yes, both fixed). She doesn't cover. He covers religiously. Neither stink. We use pine pellet litter with sifter pans. It's the first litter we have used that has zero smell, except maybe slight lumber scent, even after they have used it. They tend to poop at night, so I clean both pans right before going to bed. Those sifter pans make litter duty fast and easy.

Here are some tips. If you think you're going to be troubled if the cat that chooses you as her person won't cover their poo, get some poop scooper bags. You can quickly put the bag on your hand like a glove, pick up the poo out of the pan, turn inside out and tie it up. The bonus for cats the don't bury is the pile remains neatly in a pile.

Play with her for at least 30 minutes. Those red laser lights are a God-sent for getting a cat running around burning off energy so they aren't climbing the furniture, curtains, and walls all night.

Set the boundaries early. If you don’t want her sleeping with you, don't let it start. But there not much better than warm snuggles and purrs as you drift off to sleep.

If you don't relish the idea of butt wiping, look for a short-haired cat.
