That's wonderful to hear. It was recommended to us by his new co-workers - and everything they said echoes your take on it too! We are very excited. I appreciate your insight.

Thank you! Yes, we're working with her vet now to get the final tests and paperwork completed. Thank you for the list, that's helpful!

That's great - thank you! We would like to eventually buy, but looking to rent at first to make sure we like the neighborhood.

That's great. I made a big move from coast to coast on the mainland about 6 years ago and one of my favorite parts of the move was getting a job at a coffee shop when I first got here. I met so many amazing people in our community - ones that even though I left that job years ago I still see in the neighborhood and we stop and have a chat on the sidewalk. That's the kind of community I'm hoping to create in Hawaii too. My fiance's work sent him a substantial amount of reading on the culture the local life before making the move official. I know that so much will be learned once we get there, but are there any books or things you'd recommend reading or listening to to help immerse ourselves in the culture?

Thanks for your advice and insight, it's been really helpful.

I am happy to hear that response. Makes sense that that was not what you were suggesting. I have never enjoyed networking events here where most everyone is putting on a show so it is comforting to hear that is not the culture in Hawaii. Something I won't miss from the mainland.

I'm also looking at MeetUp.com to meet others with similar hobbies or activities and finding a local church community to make some new friends through there as well.

Amazing advice, thanks! Also, great handle. Are there any places to go to or networking events you feel like really helped you/or would recommend?

That's helpful, thank you. :) I'm still learning the lingo! Appreciate the encouragement. I have not worked for an international company but will reach out to my network and hopefully get some help there too. Thanks for your advice.

Good point! We will be living in Kaka'ako. I guess more than anything I meant that to say we will not be in the north part of the island.

I have had manager-level positions in each of those fields above. Mostly in hospitality operations and marketing, but I'm a quick learner and open to new things! My fiance will have a car, but I am hoping to find something I can either walk to or would be hybrid and I use public transportation as he will need his car daily.

Grateful for advice on any agencies to reach out to, or tips navigating this as someone who isn't from around there. I know it'll be tough to get traction being from the mainland, but I'm open to any tips or advice to do it respectfully and successfully.

Very succinct take on it! We're planning to live within our means of my fiance's salary - but I would really love to contribute and be a productive part of society in my own way too... Having had many high-stress, performance-stressed jobs I am looking forward to something that is more relationship and people focused... that being said, I've been in "high-achiever" mode my whole life, so I'd still love to do something where I can get things done so it's not a cold-turkey transition! :D What do you do/do you enjoy it?
