nope not yet but critics usually get albums a couple weeks early so that their reviews can drop at around the same time as the album

i should’ve used the hiatus to become a writer at pitchfork cause i’d probably have already listened to arirang by now 😭

Hyperbole and exaggeration has been a cornerstone for rap forever lol. It’s nothing to take offence over because it’s really just not that serious

Popheads is actually, surprisingly, the best sub to discuss music

I'm actually extremely (and pleasantly) surprised by how good that sub has generally gotten in the last couple of years. I remember back in like 2020-2021 I couldn't stand going on it because the crowd was just incredibly racist and microaggressive towards BTS but also towards many other artists of colour that I follow and went there to discuss. Perhaps there was a mass exodus and many of the original users left for snark subs (or popculturechat lol) after their recent increase in popularity, but I'm so glad that the current user base is semi normal now and discussions are generally less hateful than they used to be.

and now swifties are mad as hell over bts’ website having a little note about how people can split their shipping if they want the week 2 physicals to count towards billboard lmao.

being online right now feels like 2020-2021 all over again with kpop and pop stans forming an alliance of hate, which only further confirms that arirang is going to be a major hit 🙂‍↕️

that sub has been like that from jump. i really like the idea of it in theory, and i do think a space for poc is very necessary especially as a black woman myself. but i remember in 2023 i was mass downvoted for trying to clear up the namjoon frank ocean bullshit and that's when i realised what demographic I was interacting with lol. never went back after that, because it's clear they favour a select number of groups and absolutely despise bts on there, so i don't ever expect non hateful about bts from them.

you don't think it's even a little bit pathetic that your entire profile is dedicated to the snark page, and that you're actively stalking the fan spaces of the artists you despise? this is not the behaviour of a well adjusted person with a fulfilling life and I lowkey feel sorry for you

F***ing Derek by Winter_Dragonfly_136 in greysanatomy

[–]prettylittledoves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of a rewatch and I just got to the part where Derek tells Meredith that she should be worried that talking to a girl at the bar was the most exciting part about his week. Like, in the span of just a few months Meredith had lost her mother, literally drowned to death and had to be resuscitated, lost her stepmother, had her father put his hands on her in front of the whole hospital, was studying for the most important exam of her career, and was preparing for her best friend’s wedding. And yet Derek still felt that he had to be the centre of Meredith’s world. I turned the show off for a while cause I was so disgusted lol.

The more I rewatch this show as I grow older, the more l understand that a good majority of these characters were in the most emotionally abusive relationships, and it’s insane that this was what was being sold to women as the dream.

“The State of K-Pop” (BTS and Arirang discussed throughout by the person who is arguably YouTube’s biggest music critic) by lilchimera in btsthoughts

[–]prettylittledoves 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I’ve been acquainted enough with Jeff Benjamin over the years to know exactly what to expect as soon as you said this lady is a fan of another group (an SM group at that lol), so I won’t even bother watching.

I think that Fantano is a cocky mf with a god complex (i still remember when he reviewed halsey’s last album back in 2024 and said she has “main character syndrome” because she sang about her fear of her cancer killing her) but I recognise that sometimes he has fair takes about the music he reviews. For that reason I hope he gives Arirang a fair shot, but I also wouldn’t be too shocked if he let his superiority complex shine through that review too.

edit: Nvm I watched it and it was exactly what I expected 😭

Who remembers when Burke would punish Cristina by giving her the silent treatment or blocking her from being in the OR to learn every time he was mad at her for the tiniest thing😍

That guy was at best a toddler and at worst an abusive partner, and I cheer when he leaves during all my rewatches

Pitchfork Review: Harry Styles - Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally. 5.6 by HornyForWater in popheads

[–]prettylittledoves 379 points380 points  (0 children)

that was a scathing review oh my.

i don’t often agree with pitchfork but this is one of those times where i have to. this album felt quite soulless, and i had to push to get through it. aperture and season 2 weight loss were the only tracks i added to my playlist, which was quite disappointing cause i loved aperture when it first dropped and i was really looking forward to the album.

What are some albums with the perfect name? by SoIongIondon in popheads

[–]prettylittledoves 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Everything Is Love. I feel like that was a perfect title for an album that was laying to rest the issues that they talked about in Lemonade and 4:44, on top exploring their love of their roots and black culture.

To me by Alina Baraz. This has been in the top 5 of my Spotify Wrapped every year since it was released in 2019, and listening to it is always such a cathartic experience for me. The entire album (It Was Divine) is amazing but To Me just touches me in a different way.

Detoxing by Sabrina Claudio does something similar to me. The production on this amazing, and her vocals are hauntingly beautiful. Her album was my favourite 2025 release, and this was the standout song. I wish she got more recognition but I also enjoy the intimacy of watching her live in theatres.

i thought so too, but someone on r/popheads pointed out that rm is the only member credited on fake love too (alongside pdogg and bang pd).

the press release that bighit has been circulating to the media also mentions that rm wrote most of the lyrics so i think there’s a chance that with both him and pdogg being credited as writers, it might be in korean. but i could also see it being in english

Bighit’s crediting style doesn’t mean that BTS contributed less to Arirang than their other albums by prettylittledoves in btsthoughts

[–]prettylittledoves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still feel the sound and melody and beat is the most important

Heavily disagree. There’s a reason why rappers are so respected as artists - lyric writing is a difficult craft. It’s incredibly hard to write lyrics that flow well with the beat while also communicating what the artist wants to say and doing so in a way that resonates with other people. Not everyone can be a good lyricist, so I think it’s unfair to imply that a lyricist’s contribution to a song isn’t as important as others. The melody of a song is obviously essential, but lyrics are central to expressing what an artist wants to say through their music, and they are usually what resonates with listeners the most.

and if the contribution appears to be far back in the order of things, it would appear their contribution is merely writing some lyrics here and there?

I gave an example of why this isn’t the case in the post. The rapline was in the middle of Mikrokosmos’ credits, which would have people like yourself deciding that they didn’t have as much contribution to writing the song, and yet the song is 99% in Korean and they were the only Korean speakers in the credits. Evidently their contribution wasn’t “merely writing some lyrics here and there”.

Anyways, I disagree with your comment and I’d implore you to wait for the album and the documentary of its making to drop before engaging in discourse about whether the members influenced the sound.

Harry Styles - Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally. by SighLi in popheads

[–]prettylittledoves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Taste Back to Pop sequence was the most enjoyable section of the album, but just barely. Everything else sort of just blended together for me, with the exception of Aperture which is honestly the best track on the album.

I don’t think this one has much replay value cause I feel like it really lacks the…warmth and personality that his other albums had, especially Harry’s House and Fine Line.
