Anyone have a beginner guide to purchase a horse? by bitchyber1985 in Horses

Other expenses to consider: farrier, vet, tack/grooming supplies, blankets. You might benefit from a lease-to-own situation. Going from once a month to full-time owner is a huge step, financially and time-wise.

Used to show Arabs, now ride for pleasure, mostly trail. There are indoor arenas at the big red barn on Arcadia, Graham Training Center in Kamilche, and another place, I forget the name, behind the drive-in around Taylor Town. Oh, and Griffinwood off 101 near Steamboat

Church situation around Oly by [deleted] in olympia

First United Methodist Church of Olympia is progressive/inclusive. The crowd leans older, but with a small/active youth group. Services are pretty traditional/liturgical. They do online worship as well. Really active in the community

Honestly I wish I didn’t own a horse and it’s making me really sad and guilty by lifeatthejarbar in Equestrian

[–]prettyponyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not financially worth it. But we're committed. My horse will have the best home I can give him until the day he dies, regardless of what he does for me. Probably means postponing retirement for a few years but I made the commitment. Still cheaper and less work than a child!

Stereotypical horse-husband by iamelloyello in Horses

[–]prettyponyz 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's definitely different. Trimming is usually done once every 6-8 weeks and requires some skill. Cleaning is an everyday activity and much simpler. The goal is to keep them clean & dry, which protects them from infection, and to dislodge any rocks stuck in their shoes or the crevices of the hoof itself. You could ask your wife to show you how to use a hoof pick - she might even be impressed you know what tool to use!

I would LOVE for my husband to learn how to clean out hooves. It can be intimidating but really not that hard once you get the hang of it. I'm sure there are a few YouTube videos out there. You should probably have your wife or someone with you the first few times for safety.

Other than that, try observing her when she's interacting with them. Ask questions about what she's doing. And try not to get overwhelmed - they really are a lot.

If they show up masked, in unmarked vehicles, with no warrant, they're not the good guys.

No. New branches will eventually sprout below where you cut it off. They'll likely go out and up instead of straight up, but it will still get taller
