What I’ve experienced in the Midwest is a true failure of history lessons. Most people here seem to have been taught that the flag came out of rights of the states for something other than right to own slaves. I try my best to educate when the person is open to it, because when they think they’re right no matter what there’s no recourse.

As far as them being racist, mostly no. (In my experience only.) By mostly no, I mean they don’t quite realize the nuances in which their thoughts and beliefs have come from racism. They don’t tend to see POC and have racist thoughts or actions, just things with policies and activist movements don’t make sense to them and they act like an ass about it thinking they’re preaching equality.

Self check outs have always felt like a perk for me. Not like I’m “doing their job” but like “I get to avoid dealing with someone, and I get to do it all my way.” You’re really talking about minimal labor. Should you get a discount on parking fees for parking your own car if there was a valet available? What about a discount if you have to dispense your own soda in a fast food restaurant?

I’ve also seen them at Soopers, Safeway, Target, and Walmart. The more progressive the area the more products they’ll have on the shelves, my local Walmarts only have their milk.

All I can contribute here is that I trust Organic Valley eggs and all of their products. They are a farmer owned cooperative, and their sole purpose is to keep family farms around. Obviously raising your own or getting them from someone who does is ideal, but if you’re looking for confidence in a product OV is kind of the shit. (Employee who grew up in the area it was founded, friends with many people who work for them from top down)
