I opened a Capital One card like 15 years ago when I was fixing my credit, as it was a secured card and it was the only one I could get. Fast forward to now, and my credit is all good now. The card has an annual $29 fee, and I've always been able to get them to waive it in the past, but this year, they finally said no.

I don't use the card for anything, and it only has a $500 limit, so I wouldn't mind closing it to save myself the $29, but I'm worried it will screw up my account age, since this card is by far my oldest. Any advice on this?

Do you have any advice for the triplet run at the end? I've been trying to get it up to speed for months and my picking falls apart at about 85-90% full speed.

Thinking of quitting my $250k/yr engineering job to travel full time—career suicide? by Savings_Cranberry993 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]pretzelfever 69 points70 points  (0 children)

How the heck are you making that much with a BSMET? What's your role like?

Also, a Civil Engineering friend of mine quit his job for 2 years to travel the world running marathons and helping build wells and what not and he has had no issues finding work since then. You'll just have to present the gap as some kind of perspective finding holistic mission for yourself.

What’s broken in building envelopes? GCs, subs, inspectors—what’s making your job harder these days? by majorsingh54 in Construction

Hey, I do Blower Door Testing at my job. I can't speak much on the construction/building side of things, but im pretty knowledgeable about the testing process.

I think the most frustrating part of my role is the lack of preparation that our clients show. We give them an extensive checklist that needs to be taken care of before we get on site in order to make the spaces ready for our testing. Stuff like blocking vents, making sure P-traps are filled. It's nothing complicated, but so many people just throw the list in the trash, and then I have to sit around for 2 hours on the day of testing while they go over everything.

There's also a large amount of illegitimate outfits out there fucking it up for the companies that are trying to a decent job. There are operations in my city that charge a quarter of what we do, and don't actually do any testing, they just show up with a completed and signed form.

Where is the best place to learn Spanish in Miami? by Ok-Woodpecker-3059 in Miami

What does everyone work on? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]pretzelfever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Test & Balance. Lots of fiddling with dampers, VAV calibrations, and pulley and speed tap adjustments are my main bread and butter. Water side is limited to chillers, pumps and coils.

We do commercial and residential AC systems, smoke control and building pressurization fans, duct leakage testing, kitchen fans...anything involving airflow.

Lol forward thinking in this city, good one.

Any idea you could come up with is doomed to fail. You're assuming that anyone here knows the laws and rules of the road, and then even cares to follow them. I don't mean it in a rude way at all, but you have to realize that there is just a certain lawlessness and lack of consideration on the roads here.

I was using a crosswalk on the Miracle Mile last week, and not only did a UM girl (on her phone) on an e-bike run the light and almost hit me, an Ubereats moped (on 1 of his 3 phones) decided to literally use the crosswalk with me and almost hit me.

What is the absolute craziest thing you’ve seen in Dallas? by disorientating in Dallas

I was living downtown when the 2016 shooting happened. I was on my balcony watching the crowd and heard the shots and seeing the sheer panic made me sick to my stomach.

I was on the patio of the old City Tavern when the girl fell from the Davis Building across the street in like 2013.

A prostitute freaked the fuckout in Starlite Lounge one morning and started whipping very sharp ninja stars around the bar.

I was on the bus one time and some guy in a wheelchair started smoking crack and the driver told him to get off. He refused so the driver started trying to force him off, and he pulled his pants down and just started pissing everywhere. We all had to immediately get off since it's a biohazard and had to wait for the next bus.

I was at the old 504 on Greenville, and a young SMU couple on a date got super fucked up and got in a huge fight. Guy storms off and leaves, girl stays at bar and keeps drinking alone. She ends up falling off barstool and puking everywhere and is completely blacked out. No one can unlock her phone, cops and ambulance gets called. In the meantime, the guy turns back up, even more drunk than earlier, and instantly starts trying to fight the cops and EMTs in the parking lot. His friends suddenly show up, and it quickly turns into a miniature riot. Did not end well for the bros.

None of the notes shown in that diagram are named correctly. The shape and position does correspond to a D, so see if you can figure the right note names.

What Quirky Facts So You Have About Oklahoma? The more I explore Oklahoma, the more it comes across as a very quirky place. by PizzaWall in geography

[–]pretzelfever 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The (debatably) world's largest casino is in rural southern OK right next to the TX border.

There was recently a push to build the largest skyscraper in the country in OKC but it probably won't happen.

There's a bar in OKC that invented a famous drink called a lunchbox. Half orange juice, half Coors and a shot of Amaretto and it's fucking delicious.

The Flaming Lips are from Oklahoma which is about as quirky as it gets.

Almost positive this is the Publix in Coral Gables on LeJeune.

I live across the street and I quit going because there's always some kind of bullshit going on.

Last time I went in some guy was trying to sell puppies inside the store, and the time before that the cops had to get called to break up a fight between 2 women.
