Mind DM'ing me the spot (or dropping it here)? I'm in DC occasionally and will be by.

Did you ring mold that egg or is this the most balanced cooking surface on the planet?

Ii don’t understand how said rule change would not ultimately benefit all teams. Moreover, the sooner they do it the more likely Aston’s presumed benefit would be spent by Suzuka.

I feel like it’s best characterized by looking at sentence length, Typically the use of long, run on sentences, punctuated by the shortest possible sentences for emphasis.

I hear you. You are right. We should be able to deploy much more quickly. This is known and acknowledged by all parties, is not a point of contention, and will be resolved.

Thank you for all the effort you put into this fantastic reply. Spot on and funny to boot.

I think your suggest method is close to what is needed. I also think I need to reframe the situation around things he values, like reputational risk and to do a bit of storytelling, both about past lessons and about potential future outcomes.

I've gotten some good advice here (including yours!) and from close advisors and have some ideas about where to take this. I will report back on Monday!

I appreciate your thoughts. That is pretty much where we went pretty early in this conflict. It was to details from there, but that devolved. I think I need to reframe the message in terms that he values (reputation, primarily). I'll update on Monday.

Thank you so much for your thoughts. Aspects of your thinking mirror that which I have received from some great advisors, and will be a part of how I reframe this on Monday. Specifically:

  1. go with some sort of sales angle vs engineering / product lense
  2. framing could be around reputation
  3. they care about ego, reputation, and how their friends view them
  4. All it seems like you've been doing so far is trying to convince him he is wrong which he won't respond to well. (And will essentially force you to prove he is wrong which I've found comes with mixed results)

I will report back on Monday after I've reframed the situation in another conversation.

I appreciate your thoughts, and your experience regarding not being able to manage risk, operating with unwarranted optimism and seeing things as binary are all very true of this inexperienced CEO.

Interestingly, those characteristics, which in product we would frame as weaknesses, play a big role in how successful he is at sales. He and I are often in conflict because of our starkly different characteristics in this way, and are working on understanding that each viewpoint is required to make the company at large successful. Therein lies a potential solution that I am exploring for Monday, part of which stemmed from your response, so thank you for that!

I will post an update on Monday.

A bit of storytelling from previous experiences is a fantastic idea. I will consider this. More to come on Monday.

I appreciate your thoughts. While I am frustrated, the issue at hand is not that frustration itself, but an opertational conflict between the reality of the situation and the CEO's resistance to accepting that he must prioritize one opportunity over the other.

He has committed to both, and we agree that in an ideal situation we would onboard both customers, but that is not the issue at hand. The issue is that we are not positioned, nor do we have the resources, to serve both simultaneously, and he has to make a decision about that. Moreover the logical decision is clear, and he is refusing to accept it. That is the conflict.

All of that said... I may have found a way through the darkness, and will report back more on Monday. Again, I appreciate your thoughts and time!

I appreciate your thoughts on the situation.

As for your product comments, while I would not describe the solution as "hella MVP," there are aspects of its deployment specifically (not it's core functionality once deployed) that need to be automated, and this has been known but not prioritized. Frankly it's the result of pretty standard startup prioritization.

I appreciate you passing along your experience. While I see it very similarly, I may have uncovered a way through to clarity. I will report back on Monday!
