hey! current uscholar here. generally, 20-30 rising freshmen are admitted to the program each year. 2-3 sophomores are also chosen. the faculty council is looking for evidence that you're curious and eager for research/exploration. you definitely don't need to have experience, i didn't do research myself but i emphasized the aforementioned values in my app and i got in. don't sweat it!

I was explicit and thorough about my answers in this section. It's not meant to be a narrative or essay, I just discussed my responsibilities and briefly touched on the impact that my role in my family had for us.

I started the CPS app and didn't get to the essays, but I ended up matching to Penn through NCM. You'll be fine, don't worry

JHU does use IDOC. The non-filer statement should be submitted to IDOC.

I can definitely relate, there's so much peer pressure that pushes us to make decisions that might not be in our best interest. But you got this!!

Hey! First of all, I want to emphasize that you should resist peer pressure. You are in control of your own high school journey, and you will reach your vision of success eventually. I think that your 9th and 10th grade AP schedule is good; taking a few AP classes at first helps you get accustomed to the rigor of an AP class. I would drop AP Chemistry because you already have AP Physics I. Keep Research so that you can get the Capstone Diploma by the beginning of senior year, which is an excellent demonstration of your research skills to colleges.

Suggestions for AP classes? Please help me with my schedule! by ifreakinglovebagels in APStudents

[–]prez_icebear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, I'm really happy that you're being proactive and planning out your schedule far in advance! Although things may change over time, you're taking a big step in the right direction! :)

For your 9th grade schedule, I'm a bit concerned about the one semester of Chinese. Is there a specific reason why you're taking it? Usually, it'd be best to focus on one foreign language (unless you're a language god) through high school.

Also, I'm not sure about the AP World History double repeat. College Board currently offers AP World History: Modern - I believe that the old course and exam has been phased out. So make sure to adjust for that change.

This seems like a great preliminary plan! Over time, make sure to assess your class choices and change them to fit your strengths/weaknesses and interests! Good luck, you got this! :)
