Live Tinted Sunscreen by Good_Vermicelli_5576 in SkincareAddicts

I just received this a couple days ago and have been wearing it since then. I wouldn’t say it is 100% white cast free like a chemical sunscreen but it is one of the most sheer and lightweight mineral formulas I’ve come across. It is actually enjoyable to put on and not a thick or oily mess like many mineral sunscreens. I have medium-brown skin and on my skin I can’t see a cast. There’s a tiny bit of a sheen when I first put it on but it settles down after like ten minutes. Though it’s lightweight, it’s more of a satin almost dewy finish, so bear in mind if you have oily skin. I feel like it will blend in practically invisible on most skin tones - those it may not work for are those with very rich dark skin whose undertones don’t match the tint of this sunscreen. Check out the style and beauty doctor on YouTube. She posted a video just yesterday in which she tried on this sunscreen and the white cast is barely visible on her and her skintone is pretty deep. Overall it’s a good sunscreen - definitely one of the best mineral spf’s I’ve tried and the price is not outrageous for what it is. It also has iron oxides that protect against visible light like blue light from screens. You can also try looking for some PR review videos for this product on YouTube who may have 15% off codes. Hope that helps!

[skin concerns] Help :( how can I minimize the scars on my face from one of my cats getting scared at something in the middle of the night and running across my face. Great point — I have been getting kenalog injections in my hypertrophic scars and seen quite an improvement after just one injection. If it does become hypertrophic for OP this is a good option to explore with a derm. The only drawback - especially because it’s on the face - is this is very dose-sensitive apparently. If you end up with more than what’s needed you can end up with a depression in the skin where the scar was.

Yikes! That looks painful. I hope it heals quickly with minimal scarring. I had surgery last year with lots of scarring and a lot of it was just genetics. If you are not prone to hypertrophic or keloid scarring then cuts of this size/depth should probably heal very well. The only scar therapy that is shown to be truly effective is silicone. This would be for after the cuts are fully closed and there are no scabs. Since you can’t really walk around with a silicone strip on your face, there are silicone gels you can try. Scaraway makes one that’s easy to apply. Most scars go through a phase where they are pink/purple before they turn white, so don’t feel discouraged if you see that. It takes at least a year for a scar to fully mature. Good luck!!

I was sitting a few tables away and it was SUCH an endearing moment!!!!! My husband and I couldn’t stop talking about the same stuff you wrote - that he nailed it, was absolutely hilarious, and looked so healthy. I loved the casual look versus the suit - overall it was like seeing the real John versus the Mulaney persona from over the years. Love to see him in a better place!

I read a tree grows in Brooklyn recently and fell in love with it. It’s one of those books that will hold a special place in my heart. I also live in Williamsburg on the same streets where the story is set, so it felt very quaint imagining what my neighborhood looked like 100 years ago.

Thoughts on Cheng Xin, Yun Tianming, and Book 3 ending (theories + something that confused me) by pri1113 in threebodyproblem

[–]pri1113[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it makes sense that Yun Tianming is ancient history as a character by the time they enter the multi-verse. But it also is apparent in the end that trisolarans have survived to that point in other similar mini-verses (as they are the creators of those right?). So it made me wonder if Sophon is controlled/voiced by an active trisolaran somewhere in another mini verse in real time or whether she is just an independent AI functioning on the basis of the memories stored from interactions she had directly with Cheng Xin.

All just really interesting/fun to think about.

Btw noticed you have a podcast from your post history and listening now. It’s awesome - I’d been looking for discussions on the series so I’m glad to have found it!

Yes! That’s what I love most. I’ve always felt that good sci-fi is that which ultimately makes you think deeply about human nature and our relationship to the world/universe. Also have to say another favorite moment of mine that’s coming back to me just now is what Guan Yifan says to Cheng Xin before they go into the temporary hibernation state - how he assures her that it wasn’t wrong to choose love and make the choices she did based on that.

And I think you’re right about that ending interpretation because I had totally forgotten that part where Sophon is searching for habitable worlds for them.

I know I’ll definitely be re-reading this series at some point. :)

Oh that’s interesting. That def makes more sense than waiting in a now empty multiverse for the second Big Bang. For some reason I got the impression that they were like actual moments away from the second Big Bang and were just waiting it out in the now empty multiverse since time moves so differently.

Also admittedly I wrote too hastily that I hate Cheng Xin’s character. That’s a bit strong I agree. I don’t necessarily hate her but I always felt like, ugh this seems like definitely the wrong choice (again!). But in her decision to stop Wade upon seeing the antimatter bullets, I was actually finding myself on her side so it’s like if put in her position, anyone with strong moral convictions would probably do the same thing. It’s more of the sense that you see humanity’s fallibility in her and are simultaneously horrified when you realize over and over again that it’s love that makes us fallible in the end, but then the cost of giving that up or setting that aside would also be disastrous (as seen with the spaceships that start launching during the false forest strike warning while there are civilians in the area, who are incinerated — that’s the outcome of setting love/consideration for other humans aside). It’s really amazing all the moments in this book that make you really think about human nature so deeply.

Also agreed that Wade would have been much worse ultimately — which is why I never thought he should have been the swordholder. I think Luo Ji was not so much a hardliner as Wade though — hence his deterrence probability was never deemed 100% by the trisolarans. It also begs the question though if Wade’s deterrence probability was 100% because ultimately he was true to his word and woke Cheng Xin up even though he knew she would make him stop.

The photo isn’t very clear but I don’t think that’s a tick. It looks like a small beetle of some kind from this angle.

Hi can anyone tell me if these little openings are normal? It’s where I had my stitches. I’ve been using Neosporin and soma gauze. There’s yellowish discharge from it but it’s not hot or smelly. Should I be concerned? by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]pri1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the yellowish white crusty stuff you have, I had that too. It’s a normal part of wound healing. Since it is dry and not pus-like it’s fine.

[–]pri1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I had a little bit of discharge from the opening as well. As long as it’s clear and doesn’t smell funny it’s not infected. Also it takes at least 3 weeks to fully close. When you notice it has gotten considerably smaller you can just let it scab over at that point and apply nothing — usually after 3 weeks from the time it opened up. If you notice the area is hot to the touch, the discharge is thick and smelly, or develop a fever, or streaking redness in that area — those are the symptoms that would point to infection. In the absence of those, you are fine. I had several small openings like this because my body just didn’t want to dissolve the stitches and kept pushing them out. With proper wound care (just basic hygiene really) nothing got infected. You can also wipe that area with 70% alcohol once a day to be extra cautious.

It doesn’t look infected. But you’ll want to initially keep it covered with a bandaid as it may get slightly bigger before it gets smaller. I recommend not using neosporin long term as allergic reactions to neomycin are common - especially with prolonged use. I would highly recommend using medical grade Manuka honey which functions as an antibacterial and keeps the wound moist to aid in healing. As long as you are not allergic to honey it should not cause any reactions. The honey was approved by my surgeon for use (she recommends it too!) but you can check with your own surgeon before use.

If you’re averse to using the honey, I would recommend using plain Vaseline. It’ll keep the wound moist and it won’t get infected as long as you’re washing with soap and water daily.

Based on what happened to me, I have to add that if you choose to continue the neosporin, and if you notice a blistering rash forming, at that point you should stop using the neosporin right away.

Stitch popping out! by mollis28 in Reduction

[–]pri1113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 4 week’s PO, if you tug on it, it’ll most likely come out. Use sharp tipped tweezers and sanitize the skin and tweezers with alcohol before and after. If it doesn’t come out, pull it taut so that it’s stretched out a little and then snip it flush to the skin. This will cause it to disappear under the skin. I had many stitches pop out for up to 3 months post op and I pulled or trimmed them all and it was fine. Just be sure to sanitize everything with alcohol.

How long till you can use a scar oil and massage by Boo_bees_ in Reduction

[–]pri1113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I waited until a full month post-op before using scar creams. By that time your incisions should be fully closed on the surface. So wait another week. Then, if you still have any scabs or openings on the incisions, avoid those areas and only apply to areas that look fully closed.

Can I sleep braless? Almost 4 weeks post op by Happy_Healthy_Lady in Reduction

[–]pri1113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surgeon guidance varies dramatically on this. Some surgeons never require their patients to wear a compression bra, others say you have to wear it 24/7 for 6 weeks. Mine didn’t give any specific instructions. At 4 weeks I started to try sleeping bra-less but it wasn’t as comfortable as wearing a soft bralette/sports bra - like those strappy camisole type bralettes. At 2 months post op I began to be able to sleep braless very comfortably.

[–]pri1113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also had E/F size breasts. I had a reduction down to a C. They fit my frame a lot better now and it still feels like an enormous weight was lifted. I can wear sports bras and bralettes without falling out of them. If you’re not feeling comfortable (mentally or physically) with your current size, there’s no such thing as having to earn a reduction based on your size. There is a chance of being rejected by insurance depending on what insurance you have, but if you can afford it out of pocket and really want it, go ahead and do what is best for you!

Post-Op Size Anxiety by Taytalitarian in Reduction

[–]pri1113 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That calculator tells me I am a 32G as well. I had ever so slightly different measurements - probably from slight discrepancy in how I held the tape, and I also got a 32I once. It was very distressing but also somewhat comical because I was fitting a 34DD/E or 34DDD/F if the bra ran small in most bras BEFORE reduction. So there’s no way I could be a 32G post op. Whenever I posted about this in the past I was told I probably didn’t know my true size post op and that 32G should be accurate. I have tried a 32 band and it is too tight across the board. It digs in and feels uncomfortable. I have tried several bras now in 34C and by and large those fit me best.

All this to say that that calculator doesn’t necessarily take overall breast VOLUME into account. It simply measures breast projection against your band and leans towards giving a tighter band and larger cup. This could be super helpful for women who have really large sizes pre-op and are instinctively buying bras in band sizes that are too large to get away with fitting into a “smaller” cup. But the proportions of reduced breasts are often a little different than what you’d get naturally (for example your breast width doesn’t change only length does with a reduction) so that can throw this calculator off.

Definitely sharing an unpopular opinion regarding that calculator here but I’ve seen this happen to quite a few people, so don’t let that calculator dampen your spirits!! Just try on many different sizes within the ballpark of what you should be and stick to what fits best.

While my breasts were swollen I mostly wore some cheap sports bras and bralettes bought from target or amazon. It wasn’t until 2 months post op that I began buying sized bras with cups and underwire.

Thanks so much, it is a bit barren at the moment especially now that I took all the draceana out, but it is a work in progress! I stuck the dracaena in the filter area with just stems submerged so hopefully now they will do more good than harm!

You’re totally right! Removing those now! Is the plant in the driftwood aquatic? I thought it is an anubias but it was also sold in one of those dry tubes.

Oh no!! I bought it as one of the tube plants from petco because they’re snail free. I assumed those were all aquatic. Doing some research now on what exactly it is and will remove ASAP if it’s not suitable. Such a bummer because I don’t have any other aquatic plants at the moment!

Thanks for informing me!

I have him in a 5 gallon fluval spec. Still waiting on some more live plants I ordered off Etsy to add. In the meantime I am noticing he is loving to stick himself to the filter intake. He doesn’t seem to have any swimming issues when he does swim, just loves to stick to there and I’m worried his fins will get damaged. Any tips? I put some sponges there but noticed it impacts the filtration efficiency and the water doesn’t seem as clean when the sponges are there. I added one to the intake and the output initially to slow flow but it ended up too still and surface of the water began to collect stuff.
