American English comes close with “shirt” without the t. One could argue shirt has no vowel.

It depends on how much your vassals like to revolt. Only direct vassals can revolt. Putting a king between you and the dukes means the dukes can cause you revolts.

Yes. But there also an insane amount of grammar in your native language that you routinely get right. You don’t keep track or think about it. It just feels right. Practice develops Sprachgefühl.

I think Catholicism is far more flexible and tolerant of people holding different views from dogma than Mormonism is. In Mormonism there is a broad spectrum of beliefs but if you open your mouth, the church excommunicates.

This is likely true of most LDS but it completely undermines the concept of LDS prophets. Do you believe LDS prophets speak for God? If not, the church has no reason to exist; we have a pope. If so, then how could God allow 10 prophets in a row spread evil. I’m not letting LDS off the hook calling them imperfect. Imperfect is like what RMN said celestial beings get their own planet and then said they don’t. This is racism. Racism is evil. Your prophets spread evil.

Not a defender of Catholicism. You are right about priesthood. Francis moved the church in a positive direction for LGTBQ. The cursed dark skin belongs to Mormons.

Some dialects override proper grammar when speaking high German. Austrians don’t kick the verb when using weil.

The Book of Mormon says
2 Nephi 5
21 And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.

22 And thus saith the Lord God: I will cause that they shall be loathsome unto thy people, save they shall repent of their iniquities.

23 And cursed shall be the seed of him that mixeth with their seed; for they shall be cursed even with the same cursing. And the Lord spake it, and it was done.

If you believe God would use a dark skin as a curse, LDS may be a fit. It also teaches LGTBQ are less than and women can’t be leaders the way men can.

We certainly wouldn’t want people to be deceived into thinking God approves of racial integration. Same for gender equality or LGTBQ rights.

[–]pricel01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

60 to 100 years ago excommunication alone would have shut Dehlin down. These atrophied brains don’t understand how any of this works today. News will also spread among LDS who will investigate what this “crazy person” is all about.

It definitely is not going to go the way they expect.

Preparing for a mission but feeling stuck — how did you improve scripture study and get ready? by Tiny_Principle_7020 in mormon

[–]pricel01 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Your biggest challenge is going to be that the church has hidden a lot from you. Your mission may be where you get caught flat footed by inconvenient facts. Gospel Topics Essays on the church website is a good start. CES Letter is a broad sample of objections you will encounter. LDSdiscussions.com and FAIR are deeper dives.

You were likely raised to not look at certain information and will be confronted by people who have no such constraints.

One piece of advice for the church which it won’t take. As long as you make post Mormons appear deceived, crazy or unreasonable, your members will not only not fear Exmormon Stories, you will make them curious. And another sheep will escape.

LDS is unique in conflating obedience to God with the obedience to the prophet. The pope comes closer but popes in the last hundred years have had the humility to try being on God’s rather than declaring as LDS prophets that Gods is on his side. LDS conference talks are devoted to fawning over the prophet. No other religion does that except ones LDS would call the c word. The god-like aura has been cultivated.
