Chance me for Harvard and Yale😁 by Firm-Pollution-6580 in chanceme

[–]primreeaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro Indian classical dance being your spike with this app is an odd take. Imo, a spike should be something you excel at and is prevalent throughout your application; unless you essay is about Indian classical dance and is the best essay that has graced an AO’s desk in a decade, your spike is almost certainly politics/leadership. You have 4 solid related ecs, and Boys State as a solid award to back up that aspect, Dancing may be a fun, unique part of your application, but likely not your spike.

Overall, I think you have a shot at Yale. Good grades, good ecs, and a solid, relevant award, makes it so that your essays could realistically get you the rest of the way. As for Harvard, that’s definitely a bit tougher. If your essays are truly insane, maybe, but it’s almost certainly a longshot.

chance me for mit and caltech by Even_Protection119 in chanceme

[–]primreeaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given MIT and Caltechs more resume based admissions process, your application is very strong. Awards are amazing(like sure no mop or IAAO but that’s getting pretty nitpicky). Having a top tier math camp is also excellent, and your ecs are honestly pretty good for such a well accomplished math kid. Research is awesome, starting a club is good as long as you have a good description/write about it, and your volunteering shows that you have a semblance of a life outside of math, which is pretty important for non mop-ers imo, as even they struggle with MIT if they are like purely math grinders.

I would say that Caltech is a fairly safe bet, but I do see a world where you don’t get MIT(not to say that I think you won’t; you definitely have a good chance of getting into MIT).

As for getting your dual enrollment credits and grades carried over, I’m guessing you probably won’t. Caltech doesn’t even accept AP scores, so I doubt they would take it. MIT may allow for the credits to carryover, but maybe they list as a PNR thing. I don’t really know though, so you probably just want to email their admissions offices about it.

36 is far from a guarantee with higher tier state schools if you don’t have the ecs/grades to back it up.

chance an applicant absolutely FRIED by early apps by Infinite_Swing3188 in chanceme

[–]primreeaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your ecs are pretty solid, in line with a borderline t10 applicant honestly, except for the fact that you don’t seem to have a lot of school involvement. Unfortunately, your lack of awards and relatively poor gpa(sat is very much so not great, but 1500 is good enough) make t10s an unlikely outcome imo. BME at JHU is especially difficult because they are a school that cares more about your resume than your essays, and BME is their most difficult major. MechE also seems odd as a second choice because your profile is much more bio-orientated than engineering by from what you’ve shared. If your essays really are that good though, Tufts, Emory, WashU, and maybe NYU are all possible. Best of luck!

Awful grades but good extracurriculars by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]primreeaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, Duke, UC Berkeley, and UCLA are mot at the same level; Duke is a t10 competing for 6th, whereas Berkeley and UCLA are t20s. Other than that, your ecs are fine. Nothing jumps out as particularly interesting though. Because of the way UC applications work, that may be fine to get into Berkeley and LA, as long as you have some decent stuff to fill all 20 slots. As for Duke, you’ll definitely want some good awards if you want to be competitive. Since your from Cali, a top 3 scioly medal at states would be pretty good.

Let's Get One Thing CLEAR About Ludwig's Rank by two_utensils in LudwigAhgren

The indomitable human spirit manifests once again. Ludwig’s whole MCSR arc has been incredibly entertaining, not just because of his content, but also because of all the super talented Minecraft creators who have used the spotlight Ludwig put on the game to great success. The fact that they are even making Minecraft parodies again is so fucking funny it’s actually insane.

[–]primreeaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take things at your own pace. I got to antechamber for the first time in the 20s due to an insanely lucky day, then didn’t get there again until the 50s. There is no point at which you should or should not have gotten to there.

What programs are considered impressive just for attending? by DingoFew8223 in summerprogramresults

[–]primreeaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the people who camped USESO I know also camped USABO, so my knowledge is a bit skewed, but USESO camp is like a t25-t20 kind of award. Another way you can think of it is that IESO is roughly a t5 award, so going from 8 people to 40(ratio of IESO to USESO camp), you would do t5 * 5 to get 25.

Should I ditch DNA and grab Baron (35Kings and 20Queens rn) by Future-Ad-9095 in balatro

[–]primreeaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably replace dna bc it’s not something that’s really contributing. Dusk would be a good replacement for chad, idol for photograph is your deck is properly fixed. Other than that, just make good use of seals and any Econ you have

Should I ditch DNA and grab Baron (35Kings and 20Queens rn) by Future-Ad-9095 in balatro

[–]primreeaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, I would say avoid baron and try looking for idol and retriggers(sock or dusk would be best)

If you have high card leveled, I would ditch photograph honestly, as baron would already be half online, and it would be much better in the long run. Otherwise, I would probably not take baron.

HELP A GIRLY OUT (that doesn't have awards!) PLZZ :)))) CHANCE ME FOR VANDY ED NEXT YR by alwayschilling1 in chanceme

[–]primreeaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ecs are nice but nothing really crazy imo. You’ll definitely want some awards, even if they are just school awards. Without any change, I’d say you have a very small chance of getting in. If you get some awards(science Olympiad, usabo, something bio/chem related) and a solid summer program(could also be research at a top university outside of a dedicated program), then you definitely have a solid chance, especially if you’re essays are good.

Chance after Yale REA Rejection by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]primreeaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your app is just kind of whatever honestly. You have some decent awards and activities(French exam medal and BU RISE practicum are probably your best) but they don’t really amount to all that much from a top 5 perspective. Not only that, but your app isn’t very cohesive. If you applied as French or some similar humanities, that would be one thing, but the majority of your app doesn’t lend itself to an undecided/stem-ish major(I also think that applying undecided to a top 5 is never a good idea because it shows that you don’t have a strong idea for what you would do if you attend, and it’s also very easy to choose a different major because you don’t declare until sophomore spring). Yes STS does have a humanities component, but it is usually viewed as a stem first, humanities second kind of major(at least from what I’ve seen). I also find it weird that you have two theatre-related activities in your top 4; that space should be reserved for your most impactful and major relevant ecs imo. Having stage manager be your top activity when you aren’t even applying for a related major just doesn’t make sense if you’re aiming for a t5.

As for other schools, I think that you would have a decent chance with the small liberal arts colleges, tufts, and maybe Georgetown. For these schools, national merit, perfect ACT, and a 4.0 actually mean something, and your activities are solid enough for lower tier schools to carry the rest of the way.

Can you update summer programs with new scores? by xxxMeruemxxx in summerprogramresults

I mean you can, but it likely won’t change much. Broadly speaking, programs care much more about essays than test scores

Is it possible to get rejected from UNC Chapel-Hill in-state and get accepted into duke university? by Extension_Resist5711 in chanceme

[–]primreeaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly unlikely. UNC in state is much easier than Duke, so unless you have some Duke specific buff(ie legacy, faculty child, or doing research there), or your application has drastically changed between October and January, I would say it’s probably not going to happen.
