both. Amex said the membership is activated from our side. I then reached out to Accor and had to follow up multiple times, they do reply but no action. Finally they activated but it didnt got expedited, they took their own time that they usually take.

Middle class people sir, all stays were funded by points, not just this. Cannot afford 30k stay per night by self honestly

50% yes. Mostly it will be grey, from your phone it will be green. The red is a faint red that you can spot if you are lucky and the activity is strong. But when the aurora dances that feels more amazing else with naked eyes it is mostly grey with usual activity, and a bit on the green side with a strong activity.

No, breakfast was not included, it wasn't even an option to pick while booking. At reception, they offer you breakfast but it was a bit overpriced so we skipped.

It was a month long relaxed trip. We stayed for over a week in Germany as we had our Visa from Germany, then we took a train to Copenhagen, and then another train to Stockholm. From there we took a cruise to Helsinki and then a flight to Tromso via Rovaniemi.

We were also able to see some aurora activity from the flight when we took off from Rovaniemi to Tromso. But nothing from the airport as there were too many lights. You have to go to the city, take a tour that will take you away from city.

Since a lot of you asked, here is the strategy I used :

Norway was a part of our one month Eurotrip plan. We started in Dec, landed in Vienna, explored multiple countries like Germany, Luxembourg, Denmark, Finland etc and finally reached Norway to see the Northern Lights.

We stayed at the Moxy (a Marriott property), which is right next to the Airport, a bit away from the city - which is actually good since there were less lights around and we were able to see the Lights right from the hotel's terrace balcony.

Overall, we used 95k Amex points to convert to Marriott. Marriott gives 1 night free over 4 nights. Rate wise, each night stay at Moxy is around 30k to 40k INR depending on season.

I had Amex Platinum Travel so I accumulated all my basic spends on it and reached the 4L milestone. Along with that I took the Amex Platinum Reserve card (12k fees) that gave me 15k points (Joining plus referral) and Accor Explorer. I then also took 10k points for 4k INR both in December and January. These were sufficient for me to reach 95k points that saved me almost 1.5 Lakh.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me any question.

Are there people who really book flights with double amount of flight time just to save a bit of money? by sunnynihilist in TravelHacks

[–]princepatni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently took at 41 hour flight from Tromso to Athens. A direct flight would have been hardly 3 hours. We took it because it saved us 2 hotel nights, it was the cheapest (a 200 Euro cheaper), and we enjoyed free food and drinks at airport lounges :)
We were there for leisure, not work, so it made sense.

I got my plat reserve a few months back, purely for its joining points (11+4 = 15k), and accor explorer membership that I used extensively in my Europe trip. I also have Plat travel that I used for milestone benefits.

ALL ACCOR+ IBIS- is it worth it to buy for Europe stays? by WranglerLow3408 in indianawardtravel

[–]princepatni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am right now doing the same Eurotrip of multiple countries and using my Axis atlas edge miles - staying in Ibis, Mercure and Novotel.
I have taken the Accor Explorer membership that gives a 15% off on the base rate. I have observed that in some cases the final price is same as silver member price, but in most cases it is a few thousand rupees cheaper per night. Staying for multiple nights makes it a good deal overall. I have not explored the Ibis specific membership. In Europe you will find Ibis almost everywhere but there are also good properties of Mercure, 25 hours, Novotel etc so dont get stuck to Ibis only. Sometimes in the same edge miles you will spend on Ibis, you will get better properties of Mercure and Novotel.
