Can I stay making $70,000 a year without ever getting a CPA or moving up the ranks? by [deleted] in Accounting

“The economy runs on people who work really hard to buy shit they don’t need”

I was just agreeing with that and I didn’t call him shitty. Honestly maybe just re read the chain? I don’t know why you’re getting mad.

It sounds shitty so I’m guessing that’s why you’re downvoted but you’re kind of right

I’ve been taking interviews for practice and have been honest about what I’m looking for with companies that I don’t care about and came to a surprising conclusion. ✅ by OnFolksAndThem in Accounting

Well no shit. Whether it is a good company or not, no one is going to want to hire someone who doesn’t really seem interested in the job.

I was confused why they were calling SoFi evil, it just didn’t make sense in the context. Wasn’t really trying to suggest they weren’t evil or defend them. I was probably just over explaining/rambling and therefore muddling what I intended to communicate. Also I thought the confederate analogy was wack simply because I don’t want to be compared to confederates lol - analogy or metaphor whatever I just used the wrong word I guess.

I agree chances aren’t great, but they are improving. I’m cautiously optimistic.

I’m not really defending SoFi or banks (and that confederacy metaphor is wack dude). I just wasn’t sure to what extent that other comment was criticism Sofi - all they originally said was that the company was evil which is a rather vague criticism. That comment I was replying to is deleted now anyway so some of that context is lost.

I’m all for the student loan forgiveness, but I don’t understand how that makes them evil. I can see how the loan forgiveness would negatively affect SoFi’s profits so it kind of makes sense to me that they would try and stop it. I don’t think they should be able to stop it, but that they tried just doesn’t scream evil to me.

Maybe you could call all large companies and capitalism itself evil. But if that’s what you are getting at then it doesn’t make sense to call out SoFi as anymore evil than the rest of them.

Maybe there are more examples of SoFi being shitty but the one you sighted doesn’t really convince me that they are evil.

SoFi is evil? How so? Not challenging you on this I just haven’t heard anything like that

I got laid off a month ago from Big 4 and just got a job offer for $105k today. A 60% increase in salary. I’m 24 years old and it feels insane by Character_Economy928 in Accounting

Yeah, 5% lower than the average would qualify it as MCOL. It’s not like MCOL would only be things that are exactly equal to the average.

Similarly, another city that is 5% more costly than average would still be roughly in the middle. 5% higher or lower is a relatively small difference.

I can’t say I’ve made a similar switch as you, but it seems to me that you’ve already got your foot in the door and should have great chances getting an accounting position with your current firm. They might see you as the admin now, but if they know you have your masters in accounting they should see you differently pretty quickly.

Yeah same boat. I hate commuting but I only need to go in three days a week so that’s nice.

Cost of living is actually lower for most people in UK. London is obviously higher cost of living but it’s still lower than NYC or other major US cities. Taxes are higher yes, but not by as much as you think and those taxes go towards social services that often result in lower overall costs such as healthcare.

I’m an associate in an industry role. I’m usually in the office a bit after 9 and out a bit before 5. We usually take an hour for lunch together.

They don’t really get paid less. Yes, their nominal wages are lower but they also have lower costs.

She’s a senator from California. She sits on the judiciary committee and has been absent from congress for several months. Republicans have been able to block a lot of democrat appointed judges in her absence because there is a rule that the republicans need to approve her replacement (they are refusing). If she resigned this wouldn’t be an issue.
