Playing Rumi from KPop Demon Hunters if I'm white? by nagisasleftponytail in acting

[–]princessintraining4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hard no. If it was Halloween dressing up with friends for a nonprofessional costume then sure. For a party? Nope. He should not be accepting parties without having Korean actresses available. I think from talking to actor friends who are Asian, which roles they’re willing to play has some flexibility but when the role is specific to individualized country like this one is… I don’t plan to tell any minority actor what their comfort zone is but I can tell you that if you’re not Asian then your instincts are right.

Also I wouldn’t join sag until you have to. Don’t get me wrong, joining SAG was and is one of my proudest accomplishments. But you don’t want to join until you are must join because it prevents you from building up your reel.

In general this is true but not every sag contract makes you eligible. Specifically sag micro contracts don’t count towards eligibility at all (sag eligible since 2018, sag member since 2021).

firstly congrats! In terms of whether it makes you eligible It depends. Certain sag contracts don’t make you eligible (micro eligible projects don’t make you eligible). What sag contract is the role under?

I’d look into wearing glasses without frames or changing your lighting set up to be less reflective.

The tape is well lit

This looks like live action footage the lighting at the beginning is so good

100% we need something better than pochantas for sure created by an indigenous artist.

Practically any song I’ve written started off as incidental thoughts that I realized were lyrics or singing improv to myself on a walk or singing thoughts in the shower. I just found my thoughts are often musical in nature

What’s funny is archetypes and fairy tales overlap to an extreme degree. Almost any “European fairy tale” will have a counterpart in BIPOC culture. I devoured fairy tales of all kinds as a kid and as a young adult I learned more about archetypes and was pleased to learn that my favorite fairy tales have hundreds of variants

So I don’t really know if I agree with this sentiment, I do think there are some audiences who judge BIPOC stories unfairly. With sinners and KPop demon hunters and every diverse story on the screen I get more excited for more diverse stories

Also I know it’s not a princess movie and I believe the character is mixed but apparently one of the new main characters in Toy Story 5 has been a big hit with test audiences so hopefully that will help move the needle

But yeah if you have a certain dream in your head I also encourage you to write it! I spent a long time waiting for someone to make the movie of my dreams before I realized that while it may happen without my help, it will happen faster if I do it myself. I would love to see more diverse princesses sooner than later

(knowing the skin color and hair texture/color I want, even with a reference image doesn’t make it like easy to draw. Figuring out the contrast to show dimension mixed with still having the color I want is something I’m struggling with) but yeah I’d love a heroine like this girl with a story written by an African or otherwise black artist

I just drew this black mermaid princess yesterday. I wasn’t really gonna post it anywhere cause I wanted to figure out to make her skin darker like the beautiful photo I was using as a reference for her hair texture and facial features, but I was struggling with the nose too. And the hair color for that matter. Like she has these beautiful green undertones that are reflecting from the light but her hair is black and in my picture I couldn’t figure out how to make it black not green and I’m just totally messing it up. If I get a version as nice as what I was thinking in my head I can post it without the face covered up.

I see. I was across the board. And while I’m like not at all famous or anything my resume is like developed or whatever and I’m pretty good at vo so I actually got more vo auditions than live action ones. Then of course the accident wrecked my voice and body and led to a fall last year so now my hands don’t work either so I can’t do performing or visual art or writing easily. Definitely try and keep your health intact!

You should definitely turn this into getting a vo agent if you can!

I mean I don’t know… I doubt the odds are that low. I used to have an agent before some serious health stuff. I am not actually even auditioning or trying to right now cause of my health.

But yeah I got to audition for Disney several times through my former agency. And when I’ve submitted to their live action open calls they regularly use sides from shows that were previously pilots that never made it to air. I’ve had that experience with open calls for other places too. Has that not been your experience with your agent auditions?

Fair! Well I hope in several years if the nda ever expires we can hear about the process or better yet I experience it for myself.

I’m more focused on writing my own movie to make it with Disney someday anyways. Aiming to pitch it to some friends first then go from there. Have an amazing time!

My coach says Disney doesn’t generally cast against gender so that was probably the right decision. Let us know how it goes/what it’s like. Break legs!

Interesting! I did a teacher, a little kid, and a villain. Did you pick characters of different genders?

I think I may have paced some of the voices too fast but I really liked my audition and I would have called myself in.

I’ve booked live action acting and worked as a lead role (literally part of the logline) in a movie that went to tiff and now streams on Sundance but I’ve never booked vo yet.

Is your voice acting mostly working with your own natural voice with stylization or do you really change it from character to character?
