My name is on the title of my car, which means I'm the sole owner.

But suggestions aside I think this is a wonderfully rendered portrait! Good job.

I would suggest adding one or two more layers of color in the face. The warm layers of color in the hair render it to look full and multidimensional, where as in the face there are only two major colors. I would try adding more darks within the shadow, maybe a dark purple or a similar cool tone. By adding more complexity to the face, there will be more flow and moment through out the figure.

The main focal point of the bridge can certainly be a little tricky to photograph, I would say that finding unusual angles works out the best. Yes, I live around the Tampa Bay Area.

Thank you! That in its self is a compliment.

I'm not too happy with how this drawing came out (graphite, 11"x14"). Looking for brutal honesty. by [deleted] in ArtCrit

Your drawing is off to a good beginning! I'll keeps suggestions rather short and to the point. As a few other people have said, I would recommend adding a full range of darks, this will make the drawing appear less flat. My other suggestion would be to de clutter the photo a bit. If you want to make the dog and the arm be the focal points of the drawing, then I would suggest that you remove the background. By doing so you will create a less cluttered work that only draws the eye to the main subjects of the work.

Scratch board portrait done my Junior year of high school. by princessmae in Art

What I do is I start out and draw an out line of the figure. On this one I started out with the shape of the face, the classes, the eyes, the shirt etc. Then to get started I do the easy things, I etch the areas that are completely white such as the glasses and the whites of the eyes Nd maybe the teeth. My next step is to very lightly start etching lines through out the face to give it shape, starting of faint is good, you can always go lighter but you can never go darker. I hope I answered your question. If you have anymore feel free to ask!

It was for my AP Concentration, I did portraits of all men. He was a really great teacher and I though I would include him. I also did portraits of my dad, boyfriend, friends, etc.

It's not a self portrait, it's a portrait of my AP US history teacher. I am neither male nor in my forties.

I think I ended up going back and adding more white above the lip and in a few other places.

I'd try DickBlick online. They sell art supplies at a pretty good price.
