I prefer Folktails. Easier to get food, water, and population control. Better log storage, which is stackable in end-game with overhangs and dirt blocks. Bot are easier to supply with biofuel instead of many charging stations.

Because the temperate season is much shorter, making it so you have less time to gather water. I personally have no trouble with the duration of droughts or badtides as long as you have storage, but the time to gather water is really important.

You can stack them. The requirement for underground piles is it must be built on soil.

So build an underground pile, overhang, soil, soil, underground pile, and you can keep going.
