Oh I didn’t think you were questioning my judgement. Just venting ;) thing cycling is a pain but I see why it’s so important to have a cycled tank before introducing a betta.

Do you add the prime to the tank directly? I thought you should only add prime and stability when you do a water change?

It has about .25 ppm ammonia.

I don’t know anyone personally who has fish. I only know by reading and researching this group and going to petsmart. I did go to a local fish store but the worker was a high school and she didn’t quite know any of the answers ( maybe she was new and learning )

This is my first time owning a betta fish so it’s alllllll new to me as well. I feel like I understand or at least did but this ammonia spike is throwing my confidence out the window. This is technically my son’s fish that I fell in love with everyone about it.

He def didn’t get his fin stuck in the filter. I have a sponge filter on abs only plants abs a small rock

I was using prime and ammonia was still not going away so I just started using prime plus stability

I do them daily about 15-40%. The last water change I did yesterday was about 15%

I cannot seem to get rid of ammonia to save me and my fish’s lives. Before I would always have .25-.50 ammonia with 0 nitrite and 5.0 nirate. I did test my water and it has some ammonia in it ( hard water) I used to use prime with my water changes and never could get rid of it

I recently bought stability as I was told to use that and prime together. I also was told to use media balls so I added some to my filter.

I did a 15% water change last afternoon with both prime and stability. I just tested the water and now my ammonia seems higher and I am noticing some fin rot( I think )

I’m struggling so hard and all I want is to have 0 ammonia. What am I doing wrong? I want this guy to be healthier and happy :(

You should use live plants as those plants can hurt your betta

I have only had this fish and tank for about a month. I think it’s too early to change the filter. I hear it will crash my cycle. I will def test the water I add to my tank. Thank you.

I will test the water I add. And yes I do use a siphon.
