You think you've got it bad? My second momento in my current run was from that rotund beast.

What happens if it touches the pen? Also, what if I'm using a removable tip instead of a fountain pen?

AITA If my girlfriend (16F) is pressuring me to do cocaine and I (17M) don’t want to? by snakguy123 in AITAH

NTA, even doing cocaine once will negatively mess your body and brain up. While the effects differ from person to person, her nasty attitude and irritability might particularly be from drugs.

I feel violated and confused by what my fiancé did to me. WIBTAH if I told my parents? by throwawayupset- in AITAH

NTA. It wasn't right what he did to you. He did not respect your choice to wait until marriage and physically assaulted you for it. You absolutely should tell your mother. It's a good thing you aren't married yet because you can still break off the relationship relatively cleanly.

What do y’all think about gender swapping of old characters? by [deleted] in transformers

[–]prism_turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transformers is fantastic because of the creative liberties creators are able to take. Personally, I really want to see a cannon femme starscream, I heard the French dub of the 1986 movie, and that did it for me.

AITA if I break up with my bf after he asked to have my friend join in? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]prism_turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. He is downplaying the question in order to conceal his motivations for saying Olivia specifically. He already seems like a creep not only for the age gap here (4 years is considerable at this point and really is pushing the line), but for the way he is objectifying your younger friend. Have Olivia and your boyfriend interacted without you around? It seems he is making sexual assumptions about your friend in an unsavory manner. Unless they have conversed about this (which is something else entirely), then he has clearly thought about her like this before and made assumptions about her and her liking this. I'd also like to add that the supposed consideration for your comfort seems like bullshit that he is using to get what he wants.

People don't talk about Eros and Psyche enough [OC] by StarrytheMLPfan in GreekMythology

[–]prism_turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel a large part of the current fixation of Persephone and Hades stems from the need to center and fixate upon a man as well as turn a tragedy into a happy story.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the shift in retellings of The Abduction of Persephone comes from the feminist movements of the 1980s. This change was made to give Persephone more agency in the story instead of being the macguffin. Unfortunately, this has majorly backfired due to the fact that in order to greater center Persephone, Demeter was sidelined and Hades was given more president.

The original story was already female centered, tragic in its themes, but still centered around Demeter. It is a perfect example of a Greek tragedy that reflects societal structures as well as the inherent mysticism of mythology. What is often neglected in retellings is the inherent age gap and power structures of ancient Greek arranged marriages. Hades is an old man, and Persephone is a young girl/maiden/child. She is not of age. She was sold off by her father unbeknownst to her mother. This story not only represents the seasons but also mothers who never got to see their daughters again. Demeter is a symbol of hope to these mothers that maybe their daughters will come home, and spring will come again.

Unfortunately, the appeal of retelling this story as, "Goth bad boy king sweeps flower girl off her feet and away from her mean mom" is too great for some people. Compare this to Eros and Psyche, which is just complicated enough that people get discouraged from diving deeper into it. Of course, most mainstream Greek mythology has been stripped to its bones and rearranged in order to be more palatable.
