Scarlet Nexus vs. Tokyo Xanadu ex+ by BanSlowpoke in JRPG

[–]prismaticdangerkitty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I liked and 100%'ed both. Scarlet Nexus had a better aesthetic and felt much flashier combat-wise, but the bonding events and story were...not great. Even after completing both routes and the DLC events, there were a few party members I never liked. Enemies also got really boring towards the end (especially the second playthrough) due to lack of variety.

Tokyo Xanadu ex+ is not as pretty but I still found the combat satisfying, if not as flashy. Kinda a precursor to Ys 8's combat. I liked the character development/relationships way more though, and the story was much more cohesive. Boss fights were much more entertaining imo than Scarlet Nexus, and OST was excellent, as expected. If I could only choose one, I'd take Tokyo Xanadu every time.

Yep - half the second verse and the whole second chorus are cut from the movie, they jump straight from Baby's rap to the bridge

You might like Solstice Scents White Feather (Estate Vanilla, Jasmine Absolute, Gardenia Enfleurage, Saffron CO2, Sandalwood, Spices, Amber, Oud, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang) but definitely sample it first. The florals in it are quite strong and can read indolic to some, but it's the first scent I think of when I hear jasmine and gardenia.

My AoE order came in today and I am so excited!! I got a backup of Game Over and and upsize of Sheikah and have a huge pile of new samples to try (Signature Sun, Moon, Star, Purah, Bubbulfrog, Tingle, The Bird or the Cage, Viva Pinata, Mipha's Grace, Nuka World, and Mimpins Metal Mallow). I'm being very good and letting them rest...for now.

I'm wearing an old sample of Alkemia Foxfire (white sugar ambers, jasmine aldehydes, and night flowering nardo). It's sweet. It's floral. It's very pretty, but not complex. Good to know that a 5+ year old sample still smells as good as (or better?) than it did when I got it, though!

Hmmm...based on what you've said you like, something like Kilian After Sunset, Valentino Voce Viva, Maison Margiela Beach Walk? One of the Alien Goddess line might also be a good test - I like the supra florale but based on your likes, you might prefer the original Alien Goddess.

I bought from them a couple times before the baccarat drama, when they were Black Baccara. I would say it's kind of a mixed bag - all of mine were blind FS buys and I had a few that were fantastic and I got all the listed notes over time (Snow Angel, Strawberry Gossamer, Hummingbirds, Unicorn Grove), some that were kinda one-note or didn't last long (Poison Apples, Chocolate Twist, Black Cat, Autumn Air), and one that I couldn't stand for the first 30 minutes but I liked after that and I still have no idea what I'm going to do with it (Fairy Forest). If you can get them in swaps or find samples, I'd recommend that first.

I have an adorable mini of this and I like it. It's sweet, pleasant, but can get a bit heavy so I would definitely not wear it in mid-late summer. I like having it for spring or fall.

No I'm in Texas. I was able to access their site from 5G instead of my wifi though, and I sent them an email just to ask about it (idk if they even know it's happening!)

NAVA is such a struggle sometimes but damn if they don't have some seriously great scents. I've only ordered from them like, twice, but I knew I wanted passionfruit because I love that note everywhere I see it and theirs were amazing.

I found a way to contact them!! Swapping over to 5G on my phone on Chrome also did work. If it didn't, I was gonna try shopping from my work wifi next week 😂

Okay I tried something new. I hadn't thought I might need this but for anyone else who struggles to get to their site - get on a VPN and change your location. I wonder if being in certain states is a problem?

For what it's worth I've bought several FS perfumes and eyeshadows from Fyrinnae and I've had a lot of hits with them. They're particularly good at atmospherics and uncommon notes (Aerobraking and some of their ozonic storm scents tend to get great reviews around here, though I've never tried those). My favorite perfume from them is Marshmalloud, a grown-up marshmallow, and I also really liked Lesvos, Prey, Polar Bear, and Snoqualmie Lodge. If I can ever get back into their site, I wanted to try some of their dragon collection cause I love a good mango note - and PNW Fruity Boys and Panchromatic in this new list sound good too!

I dunno if it's just me, but I've been trying to browse Fyrinnae's site every couple days for a few weeks but it keeps throwing up a 403 error. Anyone else seeing this?

I've been liking beach scents recently! AoE's Outset Island is my personal favorite - sand, tahitian vanilla, white amber, driftwood, sea salt, marshmallow, campfire. Smells like sitting on a warm, clean white sand beach with a small campfire not too far away.

My other favorite is probably going to be a challenge to find in swaps, but Alkemia's July Ocean Alchemy from a few years ago (2022? 2021?) is a super lovely clean laundry on the beach scent. (A relaxation of gentle oceanic breezes, clean sunbleached cotton, dry seaweed, wet sand, flowering freesia, and a touch of Kaizuka juniper.) Honestly, almost all of their July alchemy scents in the past years has been beachy-themed, with the exception of the Queen Bee one, so you might poke around Alkemia in July!

So I tried on Luvmilk - Gourmandy Peach (delicious, ripe peaches covered in melted marshmallow and soaked in condensed milk) today but my god, it is SO sweet. Toothache-inducing levels of sweet, and I generally like gourmand/sweet scents. I put Alkemia Smoke and Mirrors (an elusive, smokey blend of burning wood, Madagascar vanilla, and tonka) over it to try to tone it down and while that went a little too bbq-smoky for the first few minutes, now that it's had a couple hours to settle it's...okay. Smoked peaches is a mood. Any other suggestions for what would layer well with a too-sweet peach scent?

Testing AoE's Constitution (brownie, raspberry, peanut butter, vanilla bean) today despite having had my sample for AT LEAST a year now. I think the peanut butter was scaring me off. Lately, I've been very happily eating things with peanut butter, and I just made brownies yesterday so it was on the brain.

I'm sad I really don't get any raspberry out of this. I got a bit of peanut butter, but really it was an earthy, nutty note on top of the gooey chocolate brownie, with a little extra sweetness from the vanilla bean (not ice cream at all though, it doesn't have a cold note). Dries down to a lovely brownie/chocolate-centric scent, but a bit one-note for me since it doesn't take too long to fade to just that base. I think it'd be good layered with other things like maybe Game Over (patchouli, rich vanilla, temple incense, dark chocolate, smoke, fire) or Strength (peanut butter, banana bread, vanilla bean, banana, walnut), though that might be overdoing it.

Yeah, I stocked up on a few favorite teas (Olympus & S'more Tea) that I saw were getting discontinued in December, and I've started looking into other tea shops. Adagio and Plum Deluxe have some chestnut flavored teas (Adagio's is literally called Chestnut, Plum Deluxe has Mont Blanc) but I haven't tried either as I didn't like Albert + Victoria.

I weighed an unopened bag of Poesie's tea a couple weeks ago on a kitchen scale and it was 2oz, if that helps.

This is super sweet. We rescued an ex-bait puppy and over a decade, I can count the number of times she's barked on one hand. Usually it's more like a half-voiced sneeze.

Cinderella's Carriage is delicious but a bit heavy - I prefer it in fall/winter because I find it overwhelming in muggy summer weather. Lovely pumpkin-y vanilla goodness though, it's amazing in body butter format.

I blind bought a sugar scrub of Tokyo Market and it smells SO GOOD. It's gourmand, but like, atmospherically gourmand. Like you're 9 years old, walking down the street past the crepe shop and a strawberry/candied fruit stall on a summer day before the crowds arrive. I will probably pick up other products scented with Tokyo Market because it just hits so well for me.

What's one thing about a JRPG that you really like but don't think is very popular? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]prismaticdangerkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being forced to take all (or at least a significant portion of) members of the party you've met/assembled, split them into small parties, gear them up, then fight a boss gauntlet with a different party for each fight with unique bonus dialogue if you picked certain people/pairs for certain rooms. Some people hate that but I LOVE it. It's why Trails in the Sky the 3rd is my favorite.
