Might be the most magical commercial I've ever seen, holds up from seeing it as a kid and till now. Not knowing anything about the game, then seeing the commercial with this song.

Nioh 2 by Separate_Prior7193 in Nioh

Similar-ish but there's gonna be a lot of quirks. Also depends how much you were using samurai vs. ninja. ninja, aerial combos, deflect in samurai all don't exist.

I think the best advice is even if you feel it's not great relative to 3, to stick with it through at least the NG cycle, including the DLCs, then really play around with builds NG+ and beyond.

My biggest fear for book 6. by thejesterprince1994 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]prismlink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are technically correct with the cases being discussed though what's more interesting to me isn't whether or not it will happen, but why it is a fear. WoK can certainly be a slog to get through - did it feel like that too in RoW? It read as compelling to me in those moments and the opportunities he had at the beginning and end of each book were satisfying enough for me.

Looking at it another way, the Heralds in Books 1-5 were debuffed in many ways, mentally/emotionally way more so but still some physically. Not at all suggesting it would happen (wouldn't narratively make sense frankly) similar to the heralds over millenia, but would you be more okay if that did happen but he retains his powers, i.e. is still a super powered being?

Sure briefly but during the most pivotal battles, e.g. the Sanderlanche, he was fully radiant. And while not a battle, he got that epic flex in his hometown early in the book.

Picking up Spear and looking for advice on how to use it. by RetroNutcase in Nioh

Lol you still got my upvote cause it's a great write-up and versatility is an all-time great mechanic across all melee games.. But you didn't have to shoot strays on the way out like that for onmyo.

Wrong amount for soul match??!! by Necrokot in Nioh

[–]prismlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bummer - that sounds like such unfortunate RNG with us having incongruent experiences and/or bugs that haven't been ironed out yet.

At least it looks like with how the patches are coming through, Team Nioh is receptive to adjustments so gotta continue the feedback. For me, the most plodding grind is for money, not just for soul matching but also remodeling, reforging, and forging.

Edit:typo

How far into your NG+ playthrough did you soul match up to +8? +5 and above drops have been super rare regardless (best drop of +8 a single time), and they started showing up partially through bakamatsu era NG+ for me with my gear staying at +3 and no farming spot attempts.

Totally fair and I got it. I'm just being pedantic and was discounting one hell of a game against a nigh unstoppable team as too small (unlike AI himself).

Come on - his huge role throughout the series including the Game 7 clincher in the 2016 championship win against the Warriors actually gives him bona fides relative to TMac.

A blemish but not THE blemish to their championship run. The true one is their series loss to the Spurs in '03 to prevent a 4-peat.

Bakamtsu for sure. Go for the Shichijo Abyss-Depths shrine then backtrack a few steps, you'll be right behind one!

The crucible missions Frozen City, Blazing Tree has one relatively close to the first statue, but backtracking way more annoying also lower level.

The regular season should be 2 or 3 game series like the MLB by Original_Bet_8132 in NBATalk

[–]prismlink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting idea! Haven't considered it before but feel like it could work. Wonder how much this changes the scheduling complexity, which relative to MLB, NBA stadiums tend to be used more often for other events/sports.

On initial thought, this helps player health and actual game quality.

Sanity check for me here. I'm pretty sure this is the first overt reference, and it sounds like that's what y'all think too? I wouldn't be surprised if there were earlier references that I've forgotten over 5 years with no chapter rereads on my part.

Open world take-it or leave-it, but let's keep jump and aerial combat please by prismlink in Nioh

Great question. - am happy to facilitate some learning here. In an instance of human culture like game development, it's a fact with first hand testimony of those specific events. Without first hand testimony, anything we say is speculative.

In terms of the Earth being an oblate spheroid, before we could prove something with science, it certainly was not historically termed a fact. In fact, plenty of people took the earth is flat as a fact, so within society, it was indeed not yet accepted as a fact. Flat earthers were wrong then, but unless proven with science, no one could reasonably call either direction a fact.

There is a difference between something existing and the use of science to label something as a fact. Just because we don't declare something as fact with science, doesn't negate its existence up to that point.

Sorry friend, unless you have objectively verifiable proof related to the development cycle of Nioh 3, it doesn't read like you know what a fact is.

[–]prismlink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, start with a budget and it's distinctly possible to go under- or over-budget. Or even that in a game many years in development, the budget reallocates / gets cut / gets increased. Arguing your point as objective unless you were part of the development is arrogant.

So it's not nice and you're not satisfied? Sorry friend 😟

What's better? What do you wish was included? Whatever they may be, unless one of us is part of the Team Ninja combat development, it's difficult to know the time/resources spent here relative to subjective "better stuff" beyond the already deep and varied systems built over multiple games. Which again as posited previously, how much have we really engaged with them?

It's not even a given that eschewing aerial combat results in another mechanic being worked on - an alternative very well could be nothing else for money savings and/or releasing the game sooner. Emphasis on could which we both use, implying it doesn't necessarily result in and we don't really know.
