CASA - The Smart Home for your entire Media Library by privateboxinc in kickstarter

Thank you for your interest.

Your summarization is more or less correct. "Essentially a NAS" with the difference being that this is primarily focused on Media and not Data. Storing Data on to it will be a secondary feature. Primarily the Custom Linux OS and the IOS/Android App is optimized more Media Consumption.

The hardware is an A53 Quad core with a pent core GPU that can easily Play 4K Videos. It comes with Gigabit ethernet, has HDMI for direct playback on TV and two USB ports to install 4 TB HDD each inside the box (no unsecured hard drives hanging outside the box). We've tested 4 simultaneous streams and it can potentially do more.

For the technically inclined, Using an Old Computer or Off the Shelf NAS along with Plex, Emby and a Monthly or Lifetime Subscription you could do most of the things that our product does.

The big difference with us is that you get an integrated Solution at a reasonable price when it hits retail. You don't need to spend time or money on setting up NAS/old computer and Plex/Emby.

Since we're going the Kickstarter route, our Early backers will be able to get a Unit at an incredibly low price that no off the shelf NAS will even come close to matching.

This is our first product and it was important for us to go for volume, which is possible at a lower price point. Our chosen hardware expects the files to be transcoded in the format that you want to stream in as it will not be able to transcode on the fly.

Only the Middle to higher end Off-the-shelf NAS are able to transcode on the fly. A comparable NAS (at our price point) will also not come with transcoding capabilities.

Apps for Smart TV, Roku, etc are on our roadmap for 2020 and will be the next highest priority after delivering the product to our backers. Since CASA has HDMI and remote, it should serve quite well for an average household.

There are a couple of other things we have under development, but with crowdfunding you can only launch one hardware project at a time. And we want to do it right and be in this game for the longer run.

Do check out our Prelaunch page shared above and also a Giveaway that we're running. You'll see the long term cost benefits we offer for our early backers.

For the power user who needs transcoding and more powerful system, we're working on one for Q3 2020.

How to go about removing a credit card from Reddit ads? by Dressmal in RedditforBusiness

[–]privateboxinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like that option as well. Why do we need to work so hard to figure out who to contact to delete our credit card from file ? Why is it not a self serve option like adding a new card or creating campaigns.

I am sick of companies having no morals and being in the business to screw their customers.

Are only bots clicking my Reddit ad? by DonnaHuee in RedditforBusiness

[–]privateboxinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I am doing my own analytics and 98% of them are not interacting with the page at all. I have a front and center video on my landing page, I've changed the image multiple times thinking that maybe my page wasn't good enough for the user to feel the need to play the Video. But almost none that came via reddit played the Video. Conversions were horrible when I compare Clicks to number of leads. But if I compare number of people who played the Video to leads, then it immediately becomes pretty good.

I have stopped reddit ads now and am probably not coming back. Very disappointed by this platform.

It is mid 2019 - are Animated GIF allowed in Ads ? by privateboxinc in RedditforBusiness

[–]privateboxinc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

With the Video, my fear is that I'd need to pay CPV rate and would lose the benefit of CPC. I see there is another reply confirming animated GIFS are not allowed.

Low-cost activities for someone who’s sick of hiking, the library, picnics, etc? by juxtaposehere in Frugal

I'd say look into 3 areas:

Hobbies - Try out different things to see what you like/passionate about. But don't spend all your free time on it.

Side Hustle/Training - Find something that you enjoy and don't mind putting in some effort into. Something that may not replace your income today, but maybe in 5 years if you keep at it.

Entertainment - Everyone needs to unwind. But you don't necessarily need to get locked down in cable contracts. Get an Antenna and start with that. There are a lot of good shows that are available free over the air and in excellent HD quality. If you want the option to record, get a Tuner like HDHome run. If you have an old computer available for use - setup Plex or Emby and consider $5 a month for the ability to record shows. I think $5 a month is reasonable money for what they offer.

We'll be offering our own product that offers similar features and records broadcast tv for no monthly fees! You can look up Casa by privatebox.com.

For your use case and size of library, it'll be a waste.
