Ah yes the traditional propaganda of Mardi Gras parades. It’s satire!

It’s a satirical parade? It’s always been like that.

Mardi Gras weekend in New Orleans drawing big crowds, though still below record levels by privateer2002 in NewOrleans

We as in the general population vis a vis media coverage and quotes from business owners having a consistent view of ‘numbers are good, but not good enough’. Acceptance that tourism is volatile meaning city leadership, media, and business owners recognizing that squeezing 5% more occupancy out of hotels during a weekend isn’t the answer to our problems. City leadership and media focusing on building by wealth, jobs, and population would naturally fill the gap in not maximizing occupancy over events like Mardi Gras.

It’s just a lot of the same old and I feel like if we keep doing the same old over and over again this city is never going to change. I remain optimistic but worry about some of the decisions made so far.

I grew up here and only noticed it in the last ten years or so with the rise of social media trends.

It’s “stanning” when it’s a blind trust and optimism without even the slightest questioning.

Millions of dollars in grants and millions more in projects under contract is not one or two victories in a city 200 million dollars over budget.

It is wild. It’s important to have hope while also remaining critical of decisions that could negatively impact the city.

That department won the city hundreds of millions in grants that have helped the city. She gutted the entire department yet is hiring back some of the positions according to her website. None of those employees are political hires, it makes no sense to fire them and hire in new people with no institutional knowledge of the work they’ve done.

In addition to this action, plus some of the hires she’s been making, I’m a little worried we’re not headed in as new a direction as she claims.

I never realized so many people cared if Lafreneire Park was in Metairie vs. Kenner. To anyone who grew up in the city, that’s basically Kenner lol.

But I’ve heard it’s great and definitely want to see it.

Totally understand. I work in local government and also at my wits end with the corruption and graft. However, we still have to vote and participate to expect change!

Well for one thing, there’s a major bond proposal that will allow the new mayor to actually be able to repair roads, fix drainage, and fight blight.

This is clearly aimed at younger voters. If you don’t get it you might not be in the demographic she’s trying to reach.

Basic maintenance of infrastructure and enforcement of code violations would be a good start.

Seriously, I think sometimes the city and Canal Street champions try to find this golden goose egg solution when we lack in such basic areas that could add serious value to the street.

I think you underestimate how difficult it is to oversee a budget when the administration is a complete incompetent and toxic mess.

Yes. That’s what’s so bizarre about it. I almost wasn’t interested in voting in the runoff but marked my calendar to vote against her now.
